I don't see the need for that. If someone helped you surely you can take less than 30 seconds to type a little message.

Whilst we encourage member feedback, in this instance, it's not up for discussion. The way we have enabled this feature at PCHF is bespoke and unique for a Tech forum, catering for the need to provide more than a casual click of a "thanks" button when a volunteer staff member (or other member) has taken the time in their life to help others with their problems.

Having to give a reason for rating the post is too much effort
Is it really too much to type a short comment to say why something did or didn't work? I don't think it is....

Posted by Derekjerry:
I think its true that people who visit the forum have better things to do than make their brain work hard to justify why they aprove of something
That is a very derogatory comment and I hope that those people who have helped you for FREE over time and made THEIR brains work hard to help you, read this and make their own judgement on your comments...I have.

Zachary, it may have been better hearing your comments on this prior to its implementation.

I hope my feelings on this are coming accross LOUD and CLEAR!

I like it,was this not posted about the changes and some agreed on this new way of thanx?

When a comment is posted it shows what area you were helpfull in.

Example:Posted link for easy access.

It also gives new members an insite of how good/bad a satff member or a member is on there help and fix,s.

I think in all it is a good idea.

The old system just ment some one could go around threads clicking thankyou at random.

I like it a lot. Though it's a shame that there's no indication on the post whether or not feedback has been left (positive or negative). Or maybe I'm just blind as usual

Edit: Nvm I'm blind. Lol.

ouch! Of course, i appreciate people helping me with my pc problems. My comments were in no way designed to be derogatory, they were exaggerations. The point in this thread was for people to come back with constructive words on which i can see why people find the "rate this post" system useful. Hengis you have taken this the wrong way, because i said that people have better things to do than justify why they aprove, does not mean that i am that way(although i prefer the"thanks" system easier, i have still used the "rate this post" system), i was thinking about the new people to the forum or people who do not regularly use the forum-the new system may see people not being recognised for helping due to people being put off by the more complicated nature of the "rate my post" feature-therfore being put off and not doing it, where as the thanks button is easier to see and simpler, so more people can be recognised for helping out. The reputation system i have just found to be unfair. If i am correct in saying that the red reputation point is meaning you have a bad reputation, because one person disagrees with what you have said does not mean your reputation should be lower. Anyway since i have learned that people like the system and value it i shall get used to it. I know the stuff i've said is not fact, just what i think.Hope this is cleared up.

Hengis,
I guess it was just a case of needing to see it first. Actually I just probably need to adjust to it, as is the way for me with all changes. As for this being more of a reward for our time, I can see that...I must admit that I do feel a bit happier when I see the text "1 new reputation comment" at the forum header when I log in.
I will also say this, I was on another VB forum that had the reputation system in place with no comments or text on the posts, if you clicked on it it just gave the user one more point but they never knew where it came from or who gave it, so this is vastly better then that, which was kinda pointless...
