I don't know if this is possible , but I've noticed that to many threads in the HJT log forum are not responded to in a timely fashion.
I am not placing blame, because we all know how overworked the Security people are.

But, I am looking for a solution.

Is it possible to add a column to the HJT forum to contain the name of the Security staffer that is working the HJT thread?

In this way the name of the Security (and only Security) staffer, who responses to the HJT thread, will be displayed in this column. With such a column, one quick visual scan of the HJT forum would show if a thread sneaked by and needs prompt attention, because the Security staffer's name would be missing from the thread's row.

The other forums do not require such a column, because anyone can respond to a thread in those forums. In the HJT forum, this is not the case.

If someone's got a better solution, speak up.

Good suggestion.
Or simply have a sub-thread for each Security Staff member (ID'd by their Nick), in which only Mod's (EDIT: AND Tech's!!!!) and Security Staff can start new threads. Mod's and Security Staff (EDIT: AND Tech's!!!!) can then move the new HJTLog threads to Security Staff threads in turn, thus ensuring that every new HJTLog is offered the individual attention of specific Security Staff members.
ie:
HJTLog1 in HJTLogs : moved by SS or Mod (EDIT: or Tech's!!!!): HJTLog Security Staff #1's sub-cat
HJTLog2 in HJTLogs : moved by SS or Mod (EDIT: or Tech's!!!!): HJTLog Security Staff #2's sub-cat
HJTLog3 in HJTLogs : moved by SS or Mod (EDIT: or Tech's!!!!): HJTLog Security Staff #3's sub-cat

Of course, OP's can post in these threads too.

There is one problem if only mods and security staff move threads to HJK.

There are newer members who will post in hardware section or XP etc not realising there problems could be security related. We then have techs picking up on these threads then have to request on ocassions for the member to do the pre-work and then inturn we move that thread to HJK once the pre-work is done.
If this job is taken away from techs then we would have to PM or contact a security team member to pick up on this thread and move it.This would then delay help to members and give extra tasks to security team.Lets not give them even more work.
Security team have a big enough job dealing with these posts without adding to it.

However I do agree with Gandalf need a little more order.

We also have the problem of members posting on threads with sugestions "I think you should do this pre-work" I have seen a very small number of threads with this sugestion and it is then moved to HJK once pre-work is done.

Some time,s the problem is not security issues.I have noticed that some issues are driver/hardware issues and the fuller picture of error codes is not looked into or asked for.
Ok so some are both security issues combined with hardware/software issues.

If we could look into the hardware/software issues first and at same time ask members to do the pre-work as a security check. We maybe need a system were once tech team have exausted all there help on the situation then not send it straight to HJK but have a small notice or even a simple icon that maybe security staff could take a quick look or that MAYBE this may or may not be a security issue?Security staff then can mark up as security issue or not.

Support the security team, they do a great job.

PS,just because a PC is running slow doesnt mean it is a virus, this could be a very simpler solution. Not enough RAM.Installed some software, wrong drivers, etc.

SorryJB, I could have saved you a lot of typing time if I'd explained myself more thoroughly.

I didn't mean for one minute that the ability to move the HJT threads should be taken away from Tech's, I simply left you out - forgot about you!!!!! Unforgivable!!!

All I meant was, that noone without authority should be able to allocate HJT threads to specific Security Staff or start a thread in any sub-categories of the HTJLogs.

Soweee

Its ok cyberdyne. No offence taken. You and Gandalf actualy gave us all some thing to think about.

Just was trying to explain I feel, maybe I am totaly wrong but some threads are not security or both security and other computer issues. To make our security teams job easier that a slow PC is not always a security related issue. So we as techs work on a thread till we have helped all we can then leave a little note for our security staff that this may need them to take a peek. Then if they belive it is not security related then no need to move to HJK.

I belive in post its lol

So layed back I am upside down.

Well, to be honest, I do see your point, and that may well be where myself and others like me come in?
If those members who (1) post a problem in any section other than the HJTLog section, and (2) it doesn't look like regular methods are resolving their issues, there would be no harm in getting the O.P. to post their HJT Log as an attachment in that same thread. Then, I would be more than happy to look at those logs if only to try and identify IF any mal / spyware exists, with the intention of marking it (or not) as possibly needing further attention by Security Staff.
I'd be more than happy to help, as I'm sure would others.

Not a HijackThis log I'm afraid, unless you're proficient with them.

supply/demand problem. Obviously need more trained personnel (wonders if cyberdyne has taken up training yet ), and I think you'll find that this is a problem across many forums......we DO do the best we can, and hopefully once school ends (full time day job, night classes, family, all tend to eat into time spent in front of a monitor) I'll be able to devote more time than just weekdays here.

thanks,

v
