Lightbulb Immediate thoughts on the forum

Being brand new to the forum's, I just thought it might be advantageous for the owners to get an immediate reaction at the layout and such. Well, that and I do have a few issues with the layout too. Don't get me wrong, it's asthetically pleasing and has a nice colour set, but it's the almost "Junked up" feel to it. There's something to be said for the minimalist approach, and I feel this site could prosper from it.

Primarily my concern was the advert placement. The ads are RIGHT there in your face, and their presentation doesn't make their status as adverts immediately recogniseable. They almost look like buttons through to other aspects of the forum! I think it would really be a plus for those adverts to perhaps be moved to the bottom if that is possible. Or is their placement there perhaps more of a money spinner?

Secondly, knowing V bulletin like I do, I found that in previous forums it was possible to customise your experience in the options menu. In previous V bulletin forums I've attended there were options to remove certain things from the page. So for example say I didn't want to see the "Site navigation" part at the left, it was possible to remove it. Perhaps that could work.

Finally, I've noticed a pretty massive number of stickies. Like...an almost ridiculous number of stickies. Perhaps a clean up is in order for those stickies that were only put there on a whim?

Just a few points to mull over from one n00b to the 1337 folks up top

Thanks for your input Frakken

It's always good for a fresh set of eyes to give some feedback on what we see almost every day.

Nice input.

I do see your point about the ads. We do have a sizable amount of space at the bottom, and perhaps the ads can be moved there.

Also... which are the forums that have many stickies?

Well I've only really hit about 3 or 4 sections but each have had a sizeable amount of stickies. I think rather than deleting them, perhaps just a clean up. In other words merge similar material and give it a blanket thread title. I mean there are a lot of sections, added to that a large amount of stickies and it just appears to be cluttered.

But credit where it is due, the drag down menu idea is a stroke of genius. Never seen that in another forum, it's very effective.

I would be delighted to remove the Ads permanently.....

.....if the site wasn't completely FREE to use!

Your feedback is appreciated.
