I was given a computer that has XP Pro installed on it. It was part of a domain before. I have an Admin account and can make changes to the system. Have tried the obvious to remove from the Domain. However, when I reboot the system it reverts back to the original setup. Is there a way to remove the domain settings without doing a reinstall?
    Thanks in Advance

    Welcome to PCHF, Medicman :)

You are saying that you've attempted to add the PC to a Workgroup but after a reboot the domain reappears?

Yes. Added a workgroup, Rebooted and every thing was back to Domain settings. It is acting like a PXE boot.

I've not heard of a system not completing the change to Workgroup. Sounds to me like something is mucked in the OS. If you aren't able to take the system back to the corporation & have it properly removed from the domain, I would have to say that formatting and starting over would be your best option.

Besides, you don't have clear license to software installed on a Corporate PC. I'm sure some of the installed licensed software would not be legal outside of the domain/corporation.

Xp Pro is all that is installed on it, so wiping the system won't be a problem. Just thought there would be an easier way.

I think I would start with the the RSoP mmc snap-in (or command-line) to see exactly which policies are affecting your pc.

A fresh format & reinstall would be easier and faster than chasing your tail trying to sort out what is preventing this system from changing to a Workgroup.

if you choose a fresh install, run the Files and Programs Transfer Wizard first, to keep your installed programs ..

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. Format and a clean install did the trick.

Well done, Medicman. Sometimes diving in to do a format is the speediest resolution.

I'll get this marked as SOLVED and closed.
