XP hangs at shutdown

    When I hit the Start button and then click Shutdown, my computers hangs for a few minutes before I get the Selection menu. Have tried various Power Option without success. Any suggestion?

    Please Attach All logs in your next reply.

    Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.


    Make sure the following options are checked:
    Internet Services
    Windows Firewall
    System Restore
    Security Center/Action Center
    Windows Update

    Press "Scan".
    It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
    Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

    Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:


    Report IE Proxy Settings
    Report FF Proxy Settings
    List content of Hosts
    List IP configuration
    List Winsock Entries
    List last 10 Event Viewer log
    List Installed Programs
    List Users, Partitions and Memory size
    List Devices (problems only)



    Click Go and post the result.

    1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.

    2- Run the program.

    3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.

    4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

    5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply.



    Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
    • Save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
    • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.


    Also please Download UnknownDeviceIdentifierand post the log it Creates in your next reply.
    Run the program allow it to finish then hit file> save > Save the file to desktop.The default file name will be DeviceList Attach Device list in your next reply.

    But you can start by doing the following.

    Please download JavaRa
    to your desktop and unzip it to its own
    folder

    Run JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then

    click Remove Older Versions.

    Accept any prompts.
    Please Get the latest copy of Java from the link below.

    Next run the AVG Removal tool.

    Reboot and install either Avast or Avira Free Antivirus Install Only one!

    Download Autoruns&Autorunsc unzip Autoruns to your desktop run it.See any entries that read file not found when you see them right click and select delete do this only for the entries that read file not found also uncheck any scheduled task that are set to run on your machine,close the program.


    Reset Internet Explorer to Default and delete the icon from your desktop.

    I cannot get a successful download for minitoolbox. Get a message that it cannot change the contents of that folder. I changed the properties of the download folder to allow for 'All" but that did not work.

    Have you ran the AVG removal tool yet AVG sometimes will not allow the installation of minitoolbox.

    Edit: You could also just save minitool-box to your desktop.

    If you are un-able to get minitoolbox to run then get me the uninstall list from Ccleaner.

    Open ccleaner hit the tools button uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text file.Save it to your desktop and post the uninstall.txt here in your next reply.
