This is a build for my dad he uses his computer for alot of CAD stuff and will soon be using more high end CAD programs (hens this computer up grade is needed). so a couple of necessities are a 1.5TB HDD a high end graphics card a high end processor. a monitor is not needed and the budget for this build is $3000 AUD this is what i have come up with so far:

    ASUS Sabertooth X79 $370
    Intel i7 3930K $689
    2x ASUS HD 6970 $840
    Segate SATA3 1.5TB 7200rpm HDD $120
    Antec 1100 case $138
    2x Corsair Vengence 16GB 1600mhz kit $348
    Antec 1200watt $255
    Corsair H80 water cooler $139
    Samsung buleray combo drive $79

    Total $2978

and i do not want any silent or green components

Looks pretty solid to me.. If you're not overclocking, you might not need the h80 is all I can come up with. A decent after-market fan for 30-40 would do.

    Hey all,

Cooler Master Hyper 212 is your best best and its good on the wallet too, usually $40

Buy Cheap Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - 120mm Cooling Fan - Intel Sock

Overall the system looks really solid :)

Perhaps 1 change- In stead of 2 6970's in Crossfire, I would consider a single GTX 580, perhaps even the 3gb edition of the card :) . As 2 cards doesnt always equal twice the performance. And you'll save some cash also :)

    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 Ultra Durable 3GB [GV-N580UD-3GI] - $589.00 : PC Case Gear

    Cheers

Thought of saying that, but 2 6970's is pretty rock solid. Blade, it's like we're twins in different places o_O DOPPLE!

thanks for the thought but the 6970 cards that i am thinking of getting are not standard by any means and they are defiantly faster than a single GTX 580

    Hey all

yes 2 6970's will serve very well :)

personally just not a fan of multi gpu setups. But YES- you will get great performance with the cards you've chosen.

    cheers

I guess if you are willing to spend more than the 3 grand it's not a bad idea...

It all comes down to you really. The build you have set up already is rock solid and will last quite a while. If you wish to spend more thats up to you. I'm going to do some more reading on the Telsa and get back to you.

as i understand the tesla GPU will share graphic rendering with the CPU and yeah we are willing to spend more money if it means a significant increase in rendering speed

One thing I dug up about the Tesla/Work station cards in general is that they tend to run cooler when rendering.

Why is that important? If you were to use a say...gtx560 for rendering...it's going to get hot, because it wasn't particularly built for that.

The Tesla is built for it. It doesn't get as hot as fast for longer periods of time. This could prove to be an overall benefit for the lifetime and longevity of your pc as a whole.

Gaming cards tend to render a bit faster at the exspense of the abuse they take doing it (heat) whereas the tesla does it a bit slower but does not generate heat nearly as bad as a gaming card would (increasing life etc)

So you have some give and take here...a gaming card will do it faster but potentially decrease the lifetime of the system (or at least the cards) vs a slightly slower speed (unless you spend a significant amount of money i'm assuming) but increased life time over the pc.

...At least I think I'm pretty accurate.

    Ok i made a revision

    Motherboard: Asus P9X79 MB, Socket 2011, X79 $269
    CPU: Intel 4-Core Xeon E5-2609 2.4GHz, 10MB Cache, Socket LGA 2011 $330
    RAM: 32GB Corsair Quad Channel 1600mhz $344
    HDD: Segate 2TB Barracuda 7200rpm 64mb $122
PSU: Antec 1200W TruePower Quattro $261
    Case: Antec 1100 $138

    GPU1: 2x Nvidia Quadro 2GB 4000 $1868
    GPU2: 1x Tesla C2075 6GB $2500 approx

    Setup total with GPU1: $3332 and GPU2:$3964

tell me what u think i am not really sure which xenon processor to go with but that one seemed good for the price

I'm not sure at all if that case would fit two of those cpu coolers to be honest.

You would probably need something huge like a Danger Den or something.

I have a dh-14, and there are only maybe a dozen or two cases that can fit that with room to spare, without spending a big sum of money on the case itself.

Noctua is sweet, but they take up a lot of space. Something to consider.
