    Hello there.
My friend and I are having a 2-man LAN party at my house, but as we were about to start, he decided that he wanted to install the USB 3.0 drivers for his motherboard. I wouldn't mind, seeing it as something only requiring a few seconds. As he did so, he rebooted his computer with the disk still inside. Due to this, ASUS Expressgate (His MB is from ASUS, in case you didn't realize) fired up asking if he wanted to install it (expressgate, that is). He clicked "yes" (or the equivalent) and installed expressgate. Since then, every time he tries to boot his main Win 7 Ultimate HDD he gets a "Disk read error" message which asks him to press ctrl + alt + del to reboot.

He can boot from another drive without problems.
Need some quick help on this one. We want to game so badly Dx

Boot into Safe Mode - keep hitting the F8 key as it's waking up

    Then - System Restore

    That'll do it...............

(If not then........................the words Disk Read Error are ominous)

How did he install expressgate as there a few ways of doing it to the bios or hd . You need to remove it. Its a linux mini o/s and can be written to the bios or 500 meg on the hd.
Try the bios first see if you can disable it there. If not try booting the cd again and see if you can remove it there. if you can get to windows it maybe in add remove

Windows' not accessible at all. Neither is safe mode.

I disabled Expressgate through the BIOS, but the "Disk Read Error" still comes up when booting.

We will only reformat his drive as a last resort thing.

    You say
He can boot from another drive without problems.

can he get to use diskmanger to show the state of the drive if you can get a screen dump and post it and do you have a win7 dvd?

Was there no option from the cd to remove it? It can write to the drive and set its self as active so it may have changed the boot sector/mbr

Which disk manager are you referring to here? We have a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit DVD. It did find problems on his drive, and attempted to fix them, but it didn't help.

We can't get into the OS to remove it with the CD there, and if we boot it up with the CD again, it only asks us if we want to make a DOS CD.

What do we do if it has changed the boot sector then?

Were I am stuck is what partitions you have on the drive win7 normally creates a small boot partition and boots from that into drive c. Sometimes it can not create this and boot straight to c. You can fix the boot sector and the mbr here but you are probably better trying to follow MS advice on fixing both the MBR and boot record

Miracilously, without doing anything except sleeping for roughly 9 hours, it now works... We immediately uninstalled expressgate, and tried restarting it again with the same result: it now works like normal again. I find it really strange (we both do, to be honest). I'm sorry for occupying your time, samuria and OPEN, and thanks for your advice and support.

    Well, apparently, samuria: the boot partition/MBR works ^^;

Well, we performed multiple cold reboots though. I honestly have no idea what might've fixed it...
