I have 2 cats that go out at night, this is relevant.

Now when I get up in a morning I let the dog out for a and I leave the door open while I'm making a coffee, switching on the pc etc.

Eventually when the dog comes back in, which can be quite a few minutes while as she likes to sniff round etc, I shut the door and settle down in my chair to read the latest posts at PCHF.

Just as I'm settled I hear a Meow under the window so I get up to open the door and a cat comes in.

I settle down again and I'll guarantee by any clock in this land exactly one minute later the other cat is yowling under the window.

Bear in mind the sodding door has already been open for a good 5 minutes.

By the time I do get settled finally my coffee has gone cold and I've lost track of the posts.
