This game called Tribes Ascend just came out, and words can't describe not just the amount but type of fun I've had with it. It's kind of like a mix between Halo Reach (because of jet packs) and Borderlands, but it is free to play, and the graphics don't skimp out. The base mechanic is the ability to slide on surfaces with hover/rocket boots. With good timing with the skiing and jet packing you can get huge air and speed in this game, and in the beautiful maps the devs made, the experience is breathtaking. Tribes 1 and 2 were released over 10 years ago, so this is kind of like a revamp of the original series.

The deal is simple. You sign up, download, play, all for free. Then, you can either earn experience through play to unlock things, pay (with money) for "gold" that accelerates your upgrading, or refer friends for XP. I really like this system, because even without upgrades you can still have fun and improve and keep up with every one else. The game play alone makes it unbelievable this game is free.

I really recommend just trying the game out. It is maybe a few gigs in size, so download time will be a factor. You will surprisingly need a decent graphics card for this game, but nothing too fancy.

I hope so too. I've played for hours and the game play attitude is so close to Halo's. Just pure fun; no one is out to make some thing of themselves like in CoD, and you don't die instantly. Such an arcade-like yet engaging game.

This game is amazing. I am a cod and BF3 player, but this game is so unique. More Halo like as you said. Hard to get the speed and movement mastered, but the gameplay is so fun. Bit crazy at times.

Very very skill reliant (hitting those spin fusers can be tricky) but it's a blast of a game for sure! Probably my second favourite F2P game out there next to TF2 (what can I say, I'm a TF2 fanboy ).

I'm having an issue downloading the latest update. It's been stuck on 14.8% for a few hours now. Do you think I should uninstall it and re download it as that will include the latest patch?

You know i downloaded this game... Right before i fried my hardrive. Its a great game still a little glitchy. I had a problem with my Frames per second, Sometimes the game would run at like 3 fps and i had to restart my computer to fix this. I noticed i wasnt the only one that had this problem.

Probably... 2nd best.

Team Fortress 2 has more players. Just saying.

I would agree TF2 is currently the best free FPS, but before it went F2P, Tribes Ascend was at that spot.
