I have an old laptop and it wont play videos well on any media player and I've tried many.

VLC
Divx
WMP
Real
Quicktime

None of them play without the video stalling and jumping.

I ran the trial of Driver Detective and it says I have a lot of drivers that are out of date, the two that I'm thinking might help are. . .

Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Root Port - 27D0
Mobile Intel 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and Intel 945GT Express Processor

I looked for a while and I can't find it at Toshiba or Intel. Maybe it's too old or something.



Anyway, if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.

Hello try the intel driver scan here Intel® Driver Update Utility it will find them for you

Ok, I tried the scan and it tells me that the only thing I'm not up to date on is the wireless thing which I don't use anyway.

So is it right or is Driver Detective?

And if Intel is right then am I just barking up the wrong tree as too my problem?

Are you playing them straight off the lappy or a disk?

Get shut of all the media players except WMP and VLC and use VLC at all times.

Both off the laptop and off a disk.

I don't understand the second thing you said to do.

Do the videos stutter/freeze when in a window (ie not fullscreen) or does it stutter all the time no matter if its a windowed view or fullscreen view?

Have you tired updating the codecs? I'd install the klite codec pack full version from here Download K-Lite Codec Pack and install reboot then try playing video again in VLC
