It is a Toshiba Satellite A105.

The issues began right after the resolution of the malware issue.

One thing I can't make sense of is why your DHCP Client is disabled from the log you posted, but I have no idea why this would only impact on WPA.. you should be having the same problem with wired (unless a static IP was assigned) or WEP. Still, it should be enabled, please can you:
    • Right click on My Computer on the start menu or desktop, and go to Manage.
    • In the left hand pane, double click on Services (found under Services and Applications).
    • Scroll down to DHCP Client which is suspect is disabled by the looks of it.
    • Double click on it, change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start
Try again? and then post another network test if problems persist.

    Hi Madmonkey,
The wireless config is still WEP (in case you needed to know that).

I've followed your instructions and find that the startup type is on "Automatic" when I found it.

Attached is the most recent wireless test, conducted just minutes ago.

Was it started? it's not showing as running here.

If not, try to start it, and then take a look at the Event Viewer (still in Computer Management), under System to see if there are any errors?

The laptop is still on WPA, it is connected to a wireless network (not my own), but is not able to make it to the internet. When I click on Firefox, the error message is "Server Not Found" like before. Under Event Viewer, which selection do I choose to locate the error report?

Ok, found it. The message is:

"The system detected that the network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{7D4F6A33-BA14-4381-9C28-780B219DD4ED} was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter."

The time of this message is earlier than when I've tried to download pages. Do you think it is an issue with the network adapter?

It's possible. That doesn't look like an error?

The next message in the Event Viewer is from nine minutes later, but the same exact message.

It should be around the time you started the DHCP client or when the PC was first started. It will appear as an error if there was a problem starting the service.

It might be easier for you to just save the log (under Action > Save all events as) and upload it here if you can't see it.

I can see it, I don't mind typing it out. I'm careful to get everything exactly as it is presented. The log that allows itself to be saved in a text that I can attach here is only a listing of events. There is no detail or indication in the listing of what is specifically going on. I don't mind typing out the detail.

The computer is still on WPA, still not connecting. What shall be the next step?

DJ, I'll try to be more clear,

It may be nothing, but I need to find out why the "DHCP Client" service was not listed in your Wireless Test. Without this service, you'll be able to connect to the router, but you won't be able to see anything else.

You said that the service was set to automatic, was it started?

In Event Viewer, under "System", you'll see a lot of "Information" events with a little (i) icon to the left. If there was a problem starting the DHCP service, it will appear as a "Warning" or "Error". When you double click on it, it will say something along the lines of "Could not start the DHCP Client Service on local computer", along with further information as to why.

I appreciate your patience. I've just gone back in and tried to Start the DHCP.

I did receive an error message:

"Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer. Error 1075:The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

In the Event log, I have located an error message:"The DHCP Client service depents on the following nonexistent service:NetBT."

    Ahh, OK,

Can you also check the same with the "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service, make sure it's set to Automatic and Started. Then, take a look at the following Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915162

    Then,
    • Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections, right click on your wireless connection and go to Properties.
    • Under "This connection uses the following items", select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and then Properties.
    • Click Advanced > WINS tab, and set your "NetBIOS" setting to Default.
    • Click OK > OK > Close.
      .
    • Go back to Control Panel, and click System > Hardware tab, Device Manager.
    • Click on View > Show hidden devices.
    • Under the category of "Non-Plug and Play Drivers", and double click on AFD Networking Support Environment
    • Under "Device usage", make sure this device is enabled.
Now go back to services and see if your able to start the DHCP Client once again (if it hasn't already started from the first reboot). In Event Viewer, a successful start should no longer start as an error, instead a informational event along the lines of "The DHCP Client service entered the running state". If you get this far, then:
    • Go to Start > Run, and type in cmd
    • From the command window that appears, type in: netsh interface reset all
    • Type in exit to quit the command window, and try to connect via WPA once again

Ok, I checked the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper. It is set to "Automatic".

After I tried to start it, the following entry appears in the events log:
"The TCP/IP Net BIOS Helper service depends on the following nonexistent service:NetBT."

Which set of procedures shall I continue with, the ones in the article, or your directions below?
