The device is showing up but no ip what so ever. Explain what happens you try to connect how by using windows or intel do you see wireless connections if you then try and connect what happens. Does netstumbler show the networks?

The intel wireless is a pain as there are so many drivers some work and some dont

Normally, when I boot up, the laptop automatically connects to my own wireless network, finds the internet, and is then able to upload pages.
Now, the connection to my own network is patchy;sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. Even when I am able to connect to my own wireless network (for a brief moment), the computer still does not connect to the internet. When I hop onto a wireless network in range, the computer successfully connects to the network, but does not make it to the internet itself. In spite of the successful wireless connection, it is unable to locate the internet.
The only way I am able to successfully and consistently connect the laptop to the internet is by directly connecting the ethernet cable.

I need to re-establish a connection with my own network, and then figure out why, even though successfully connected to a wireless network, the laptop is unable to upload pages. I am unable to connect the computer to Intel or Windows, because it won't make it to the internet.

Did netstumbler show a lot of station close and are they on the same channel?

Ok, because the laptop cannot locate the internet, I downloaded Netstumbler to my working PC, and moved Netstumbler over to the laptop using a USB stick.

Netstumbler does show many networks. They seem to be spread out amongst three or four channels.

Only 1,6,11 are clear channels you need to change your to the one with the least ones on and the lowest signal strength any one close can knock your signal if its on the same channel

Currently, my network is on channel 6, which shows five other networks. Currently, channel 9 has one network. Please instruct on how to change my network to the channel with the least number of networks.

Log into the router and under setup for wireless there will be an option to set the channel for a drop down list normally

Ok, I have done that successfully. Now my SSID shows on Channel 9;it is only my network and only one other. Next step?

I own two computers. I commicate with you, conntect to the net, and adjusted my router settings using my desktop PC. It is my laptop that is not connecting.
Normally, when I boot up, the laptop automatically connects to my own wireless network, finds the internet, and is then able to upload pages.
Now, the connection to my own network is patchy;sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. Have we tried removing all encryption from the router and see if it works then? You could try giving it a fixed ip

Although, after we have removed the encryption, eventually it must be put back. Just the same, I'm ready for your direction to proceed.

Isn't it something to do with my wireless adapter?
