As I'm surfing the web, my FireFox browser Freezes... It allows me to reduce it and do things from the Start Menu... then about a minute later, it say: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: http://www.toprelatedtopics.com/Extension/TRTExtension.js:1 it asks me to either Continue or Stop Script... No matter which I choose, it doesn't help... just continues to run Slllllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwww and freeze again... Not sure what this is... Ran Microsoft Sec Essentials Full Scan today and came up empty so I guess it's not a virus....??! I've also tried using Internet Explorer and it freezes too (doesn't bring up the script msg tho) which leads me to believe I might be running low on memory or I potentially have a virus that Sec Essentials didn't pick up... Running Windoes 7 on Gateway NV54 320GB, 4 GB memory It just started doing this yesterday and it's really annoying... How can I make this stop??! any help is appreciated... Thanks, Jon
Hello Iostomoam, For ensurity, This is not a virus problem. Just a unresponsive script that may usually takes some more time than usual. You can disable it right away. Follow the below steps: 1) Enter about:config in the firefox address bar and hit enter 2) Click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' when a warning pop up message opens. 3) Type dom.max_script_run_time on the about:config page 4) Double click on it and on the 'Enter Integer value' prompt, type 20. 5) Press ok Close the tab & Restart your firefox. Good Luck!!!
thanks oliverpowell... doesn't seem to be doing it anymore... and no, 12moon, I don't use hotmail... my normal everyday pages are gmail, facebook, ebay, craigslist and google... just when I have several tabs open at the top... if you have any suggestions for speeding up my machine, that would be helpful... I don't have a lot of huge files or movies or play any video games on my laptop... just normal web surfing... I appreciate the help!
Lets see if we can speed the machine up a bit then. Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue. Make sure the following options are checked: Internet Services Windows Firewall System Restore Security Center/Action Center Windows Update Press "Scan". It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please Attach the log to your reply. Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it. Checkmark following boxes: Report IE Proxy Settings Report FF Proxy Settings List content of Hosts List IP configuration List Winsock Entries List last 10 Event Viewer log List Installed Programs List Users, Partitions and Memory size List Devices (problems only) Click Go and Attach the result. 1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis. 2- Run the program. 3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there. 4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile. 5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply. Download Security Check by screen317 from here. Save it to your Desktop. Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
