I have a Asus X79 motherboard and a Asus 7970 video card. I want to buy a OCZ RevoDrive 3 PCI-E Solid State Drive, 240GB I don't have a 4x pci lane so I'm wondering If it will work in one of my Pci 16x lane? I've read that the IRQ assignment of my motherboard and I still don't understand how fast they are and so fourth. I also need to know if it works will my video card slow down? ALSO I've read that the 4x pci lane runs at 1000mbps compared to the 16x pci??? If it does will my SSD only work at the supposed 400mbps on the pci 16x lane. I've asked this question many times and no one seems to be able to give me a proper answer or missed half of it... It's all very confusing to me and it just baffles me so please someone help me since this is a hefty investment.
Welcome to PCHF, One would avoid such an investment in this case. Go for a normal SATA 3/6 SSD which will come much cheaper. Unless you are on the bleeding edge of disk read/write speeds, a SATA 6 SSD will be good enough.
