    Hi bing55me,

My name is Saurabh and I work for the Social Media & Community Team at Dell.

Kindly mention the system model of your Dell Computer. I will give you the exact options (technical specification) for the memory upgrade, to make sure that we avoid any kind of incompatibility issue later on.

It's usually better to remove what you have and replace it with sticks of the same type. You *could* try what you suggested but imho you'll get better performance by replacing it all. RAM is not too expensive either these days.

No. If you are buying the correct RAM, the configuration of the chips on the board doesn't matter. Different manufacturers will use different configurations.

    Hello -
You should not install unmatched sets of RAM - If you wish to install 1G of RAM, please leave your small stick out instead of trying to add the small one to the bigger one - You can buy a single 1G stick or 2 x 500MB sticks -
Use the >> http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ << tool to find the RAM that's best for your system -

    Thank You -
