Repair Window XP

    When I log on my computer on the first screen display are 1) Window xp home edition 2) Window xp Profession but when i tried to log on to window xp home edition the second screen just go blank and stayed that way . Now i want to repair the window xp home edition but when i put in the window xp home edition cd and hit R and the screen came up with 1) 1 c: windows 2) C:widow 3) 3 c:windows 000 and ask to choose which one to be repair , any one i choose nothing happen please advise if i am doing something wrong.?
    If i can't repair the window xp home edition how can i delete it.?

    From what you say you have 3 windows version on there one a failed install. I dont see the point of having two version of windows on there. I assume the pro version is the one working so you are best off removing the other two and getting some disk space back.
    To do this we need to see a copy of the file in the root of c: called boot.ini it is in c:\ and can be opened with notepad if you then copy it to the forum we can tell you which files to delete

    I can't find the file boot.ini in c:\ , the only boot.ini I found is " boot.ini backup in c: windows/pss and the size is 1k

    You will need to show hidden files in order to see the boot.ini

    I open hidden files and i still can't find the file .

    Open a cmd window then type
    notepad c:\boot.ini

    One step at a time can you on drive c: find the folder download
    Can you find on the second partition/drive a folder called windows.000

    We need to check we have the right one so do this open a cmd window then type

    set >set.txt
    notepad set.txt

    post the results

    I didn't see the folder windows 000 in Download but i saw it listed at the bottom of the C: drive.
    Also when I ran set>set.txt notepad set.txt i got the following message" windows cannot find 'set>set.txt' make sure you type the name correctly and then try again,tosearch for a file click the start button and then click search.

    there is a space between set and >so

    set >set.txt
    notepad set .txt

    I put the space between 'set > ' but i am still getting the same message also i am seeing warning saying "windows-system error" a duplicate name exists on the network.

    set

    Something must be wrong with the computer because when i enter 'set' i am still getting the same message
