If i can't repair the window xp home edition how can i delete it.?
From what you say you have 3 windows version on there one a failed install. I dont see the point of having two version of windows on there. I assume the pro version is the one working so you are best off removing the other two and getting some disk space back. To do this we need to see a copy of the file in the root of c: called boot.ini it is in c:\ and can be opened with notepad if you then copy it to the forum we can tell you which files to delete
I can't find the file boot.ini in c:\ , the only boot.ini I found is " boot.ini backup in c: windows/pss and the size is 1k
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\DOWNLOAD [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\DOWNLOAD="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.000="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
You must to delete : multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\DOWNLOAD="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.000="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
One step at a time can you on drive c: find the folder download Can you find on the second partition/drive a folder called windows.000 We need to check we have the right one so do this open a cmd window then type set >set.txt notepad set.txt post the results
I didn't see the folder windows 000 in Download but i saw it listed at the bottom of the C: drive. Also when I ran set>set.txt notepad set.txt i got the following message" windows cannot find 'set>set.txt' make sure you type the name correctly and then try again, tosearch for a file click the start button and then click search.
I put the space between 'set > ' but i am still getting the same message also i am seeing warning saying "windows-system error" a duplicate name exists on the network.
Something must be wrong with the computer because when i enter 'set' i am still getting the same message
