I recently had a problem that eventually caused me to have to reinstall Win XP. I have a partitioned drive, with my System files on C and personal documents on D. I cleared off C, and reinstalled XP. However, now when I reboot the PC, chkdsk runs and it says "recovering orphaned file xxx to directory xxxx" I stopped it and looked in my D drive, and files that were listed in the above statement were missing. The ones lost are not important, but if it continued it would have gotten ones I don't want to lose. What is this, how can I stop it from erasing stuff in my D drive, and what should I do? Never had this problem before when I had to reinstall XP. I installed XP and did updates of drivers when this started happening.
