And here is the driver download page at Dell.com. I know I need to download the BIOS but what else?
Unless I'm lucky, I'll need an hour or two to evaluate.
Ok I will be here all day!
Please see post #34 and submit as attachments, using the paperclip, the install.txt and startup.txt files.
Install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). link in my sig to MSE.
After you system is back in order then you may go back to an AV which has been known to cause many problems.
Sorry about that!
WIN | type MSCONFIG | STARTUP tab |
uncheck ALL except for:
Linksys Wireless Manager "C:\Program Files (x86)\Linksys\Linksys Wireless Manager\LinksysWirelessManager.exe" /cm /min /lcid 1033
Don't worry. You haven't deleted anything, You have told windows not to run those other programs at startup time. If later they are needed, then they will be started then.
ALL Torrent programs must be uninstalled until after your problem is fixed.
Torrent programs are notorious sources of malware.
Torrent programs hog bandwidth to the detriment of others.
No one, and I repeat, no one needs Torrent.
Please also uninstall another trouble-maker, DaemonTools.
I uninstalled AVG, ASK, Bittorrent, and DaemonTools. I forgot I had Bittorrent and DaemonTools on here. I lost the disc to one of my games and someone told me to download these to get the files and play the game with out it. I did it and got the game working, made sure I did not get a virus in the process, and I was going to delete them but I forgot! I installed MSE and it is updating right now and I will run a scan in a minute to make sure everything is ok.
Make sure that you uninstalled these:
Ask Toolbar Ask.com 1/11/2012 5.29 MB 126.96.36.199
Ask Toolbar Updater Ask.com 1/11/2012 188.8.131.5207
AVG 2011 AVG Technologies 6/5/2009 10.0.1416
BitTorrent 9/3/2011 7.2.1
DAEMON Tools Lite DT Soft Ltd 10/28/2011 4.41.3.0173
Driver Installer Option NV 9/24/2009 184.108.40.2067
I tried to uninstall the Ask toolbar updater but it says, "You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Ask Toolbar Updater. Please contact your systems administrator." All else is gone.
Do you have an administrator account?
Yes I'm using it now. As a matter of fact, it is the only account on my computer.
MSE results are clear, no viruses!
Now, I need to know, for getting rid the ask taskbar, which browser(s) you use.
Also need to know if you have a folder:
and if yes, do you see a file there with the name of:
I use Firefox and I can not find that file.
Separate names with a comma.
