Yep agreed,i also agree it would be a personal selection and i honor that decision as well.. I have been doing the crunching for these organizations for more than 20 years, way before the WCG was around ...
Double Dipping.. Just a few of the Organizations that use this method of crunching for numbers.. Choosing BOINC projects
Yes, I and many of my crunching friends began during the "United Devices" days back in the 90's. When that ended we hunted for quite a while before settling on FAD but then that ended too. Another long hunt, and careful observation of the various offerings and most of us decided on WCG and have been here since. My favorite aspect of WCG is that we sign up at one organization but yet still get to choose from a variety of projects that they offer, as opposed to jumping around different individual projects willy nilly. It's also much easier to manage as far as I'm concerned. I don't have all my computers here with me, so to change a project would be a hassle as access to the PC would be necessary. This way I can log on to WCG, change my project preferences, hit save, and all PC's under my name will crunch what I've chosen. Additionally when I go on treks to drum up interest at a chosen target team, I can simply attach my herd to that team for the length of the trek, and come back here when done with one click. Couldn't possibly be any easier to manage multiple computers.
Just wish to point out the BOINC projects are independent of WCG just so there's no confusion. The projects in the link require separate registration and team selection aside from WCG. I in fact have a couple of graphics cards that crunch GPUgrid for my buds at the BOINC@Australia team, so my hardware is earning its keep.
I would love to know why people join a team then never do any number crunching. We have 19 people signed on to the PCHF team but have never done any crunching. This I do not understand. If you don't want to crunch numbers, why sign up? ?*?
@Gandalf some people, like me, get new machines or reformat their machines and just don't reinstall the client
I must agree with crush on this one. Just reading through this and have realised that i have not got it on my new PC. It took me a while to figure out how to join the PCHF team the last time I joined but will get at it tonight...
