Hello, and thank you for deciding to check out this thread. _______________________________________________________ -PC Specifications- Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ 2000 MHz Memory: 512 MB Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. K8V-VM Video Card: Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series Windows: Windows XP Professional _______________________________________________________ The title explains some of the story, but I'll give you a detailed explanation. Like two or three weeks ago, my PC started to act weird. The monitor shut down and became unresponsive, and I had to reboot. A few days after, it happened again. Then shortly after, the screen's icons started to become overrun by colored dots and then the screen shut down again. I tried to restart a few times, then set automatic restart on system failure OFF. Once I tried to boot the PC, the dots appeared again but then received a BSoD (Blue Screen of Death), saying ATKDISP is causing system failures. I don't remember the shut down codes and such - I tried to fix the problem at the times when the PC's monitor didn't shut down by using RegClean Pro and such. At some point, I couldn't boot the system at all - the dots kept appearing and then the BSoD... Oh and few days before this incident started to occur, I updated my system to Service Pack 3 and didn't have many problems, so I don't think that's the issue. After several attempts to fix the problem, I ran the PC into Safe Mode and used a backed up registry, which was pretty old. After that, the PC couldn't boot at all anymore, it kept restarting. Well, I was pretty desperate at that time and didn't even remember that registry was at the time when I had Service Pack 2. Well, the incidents above aren't so important right now to me, because... I re-installed Windows, and then the problem SEEMED to be fixed, but when I installed Catalyst Control Center, ASUS Enhanced stuff and such, then restarted and then the problem occurred again... I ran into Safe Mode and disabled Display Adapters from Device Manager. After that I could boot Windows but I can't run any games, since I have the video card disabled. After that, I used Driver Genius Professional to update the Display Adapters. But then when I enabled them, problem was still there. Today I even opened up my PC and removed any dust, but still the same results. Like a few weeks before these issues began, I downloaded ATi Tray Tools and installed them but then none of my games could work, so I uninstalled it, if this info is helpful in any way. I am starting to think the monitor itself is the problem, because I can still hear sounds when the dots appear then screen turns black then milions of colored lines appear, but I do not receive any BSoD anymore. If you need any additional info, please ask. As you can imagine, I am most displeased about the current situation, so any help would be much appreciated - sorry for the long post, and I apologize if I posted in the wrong place. I will be able to get a new PC in 2 or more months, and until then I'd have to find a way to fix this one although it's pretty old. Thank you for reading.
Welcome to the forum. Really we need the dump files from the bsod them memory on the pc is very low which isnt going to help. Is the video on board as that may take some of your memory 512 is hardly enough to run xp now on old pc's you cann often get memory very cheap
Hi Geldern, Please can you follow the posting instructions for this section (also found on the BSOD's link on my signature) for instructions on how to post your logs files Sam was talking about? We'll be able to advise further from there.
