I have had an Acer Aspire One D255E for over 6 months and all was fine until today. On turning it on I get 'no bootable device - insert boot disk & press any key'. The only other thing I can do is press F2 to mess with settings (which I haven't done). The machine makes a new noise as if it is looking to boot-up but it can't find the groove. Any ideas as to what to do?
Hi Danny Dwyer, welcome to PCHF. Can you take the hard drive out and check it is connecting well when you put it back in again. "no bootable device" is a hard drive problem. Monkeymagic.
Maybe if you try to Format the disk , but try first to re-connect the hard-drive as its said above. If it still doesn't work , mess with the settings and try to Format. Hope this helps !!
Thanks lads, that was great. I got the tips on how to open the hood on You Tube - How To Upgrade RAM Memory to 2GB on an ACER Aspire One D255E D255 Netbook - YouTube, but I might have well as been a monkey looking at a poster of Pamela Anderson. After shaking the hard drive gentily, all was put back. It is a trip to the store tomorrow with 'the warranty' arguement to take place (the thing I was trying to avoid). After that - it's a new hard drive.
Goodman MonkeyMagic, the lad in India sent the UPS man to pick it up and it is weaving its way 150km up the road to the Acer service centre as it is on a 12 month hardware warranty. India lad was very impressed when I booted the notebook and he could hear it clicking on the other side of the planet. They will stick in a new hard drive & said it will take 10 days to come back. (I can only say, so far I am happy with what they are doing). Thanks again
