i have the lg E2441 monitor but im not sure whether it has built in speakers or not cause I plug in the dvi cable from my graphics card port but no sound comes out
Hi xlokwinterx As far as i can find, your monitor does not have build-in speakers and therefore won't be able to act as one. If i would be wrong about this you should try to look if the speakers you mean are enabled as your standard speakers by right clicking the speaker in the bottom-right corner in your screen and then sound-devices. There is a list of found devices that have something to do with sound. Good luck! *edit* It could also be that you need a different driver to get the sound devices going. But i actually think that your monitor lacks speakers
it says it has a headphone output, so you probably have to change the default playback device. http://www.lg.com/us/products/documents/LG-LED-Monitor-E2441V-Specification.pdf if this is your monitor. i do not think dvi carries sound could be wrong on that but hdmi does.
You will need a audio cable jack to plug in from the sound card / speaker jack to the monitor. DVI is like HDMI, except it lacks the ability to transfer sound.
The monitor lacks speakers, however, it does have a headphone jack. Headphones, amplified speakers, or an amplified speaker bar may be connected to this port. The monitor does not have a an audio port, only VGA, DVI and HDMI. Your video card does provide digital audio output. I have not discovered whether or not this audio is carried over the DVI port or just the HDMI port. Not all DVI ports support audio, but many do. For those that do, a manufacture/card specific adapter is required. If you use audio over the the HDMI/DVI port, you need to select ATI HDMI Output as your playback device.
