My windows 98 will not start up its says it doesn't have enough virtual memory and gives me 5 options safe mode, normale made, command prompt only, logged (bootlox..txt) and safe mode with command prompt
im not sure about he memory but i know its got about less then a 100mb free when i last checked it i wasnt sure why because there wont many applications or files because i had to delete them.

    Start in Safe Mode.

Select System icon from Control Panel
    select Performance Tab,
    click on Virtual Memory button.
Select Let me specify my own Virtual Memory Settings.
The optimal memory setting is approximately 2.5 times your RAM size.
Use a smaller multiple if you have more than 128MB.
Set both minimum and maximum to the same number.

ASSUMING the boot failure is caused by the swap file:

Use a bootable floppy and delete some files NOT FROM the Windows or Programs directories.
