Hi, I've been getting a lot of laptops with what appears to be broken motherboards lately, some of which are otherwise in pretty good condition. Is there a way to figure out what is actually failing on the board and perhaps fixing it? Or is this a specialist repair? Thanks
Hello cdpaul There are companies specializing in that sector of HW repair. cdpaul, where are you getting these laptops? Are we talking about new or old laptops? XP,Vista, Win 7 operating system? Why do you think the motherboards are broken? Did you physically examine any of the motherboards?
nameisuser, I repair computers for a living. If i get a laptop that wont even post when ive tried replacing ram, taking out (and testing) hard drive etc and all thats left is the motherboard i have to assume thats the problem. I've even taken them to other computer repair specialists and paid diagnostic fee only to be advised "Its the motherboard" So im confident enough with my diagnosis. I do cast my eye over the board looking for any swollen caps or obvious broken connections but beyond that i dont know what to look for, hence my thread
georgeks, i looked at your link and found a company in Bradford which is only about 10 miles away, so i'll give them a call tomorrow and check out prices. Thanks
