Let's try a non registry approach, since the registry way isn't working. Do you know how to manually install a driver?

Open device manager and double click on your monitor.

Go to the driver tab and click update driver.

    Click browse my computer...

    Click let me choose...

    Click have disk.

Click browse and browse to c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository. In there you should see a folder called monitor.inf (the actual name might be longer than that, but monitor.inf will be in front), open that folder and and select monitor.inf, then click open.

Click OK and then click next.

That should install the generic pnp monitor driver for you.

    Hello,

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but this is the best line of understanding on the net right now so I was hoping someone could help me (perhaps Xeno1) and I was going to add what I've done thus far in case it helps others.

I have been attempting to resolve an issue with a LCM-22w3 being listed as the AL1714 as has been reported on this for the past week.

My primary issue is that I'd like to use the native resolution of 1680x1050, but I'm capped at 1280x1024
What I've done to attempt to resolve the issue:
    • Ensure that I'm using DVI cable.
    • Update video card drivers to latest.
    • Attempt to use PowerStrip to build custom monitor driver.
    • Use a generic PnP monitor driver.
    • Booting from Windows 7 Pro Install CD load HKLM from CD, then load remote hive for primary windows 7 registry to gain access to the Enum\Display under ControlSet00X to delete the ACRAD18 (also removed ACRAD86).
      • Note: After removing the registry entry for ACRAD18 I had to reboot (due to having booted using the CD) at which point when looking at the registry the ACRAD18 shows up again.
At this point I'm sort of stuck as to what I could try next, any suggestions?

Thank you for your time and the information you've already posted thus far as it's been really helpful.

I recentlly installed a AMD Radeon HD 6450.
I also double checked that I was using the latest video card drivers as well.

Unfortunately I'm not that familiar with ATI as I almost always work with Nvidia cards. I did see this little trick the other day that may work for you that allows you to add a custom resolution to CCC. With an Nvidia card you could do this in control panel, but with ATI you have to edit your registry. It looks like from what you've said you've tried so far that you're comfortable doing that anyway. Take a look at these instructions on eHow and see if they work for you. - http://www.ehow.com/how_7649449_add-custom-resolution-ati.html

    On the line where they use "14 40 09 00 00 00 00 00" you would instead use "16 80 10 50 00 00 00 00".

Thanks for the tip Xeno1, I greatlly appreciate the info in attempting to add the right resolution, unfortunetlly the article refrenced appears to suggest that the information can be added to plain list (probably a enum type in the registry); however, when I follow the instructions I wind up looking at a Binary type filed so I can't just pop-in the value. This does give me another option to investigate (altering the registry directly to try and add the resolution type).

Thanks for the tip. If I figure something out I'll post back; however, if I don't come up with a fix I'll probably be looking at selling the monitor and upgrading to one that supports HDMI (I've been looking for a reason to do so anyway).

    Thanks,

If you have a second or two, could you export that key and upload it for me to look at? I may be able to fix it for you so that you can import it back in.

Happy to oblige. I've attached a ZIP of the exported KEY.
FYI - Per the instructions this is the key as listed in the info pane of CCC.

As noted in the instructions the specific item to be edited is DALNonStandardModeBCD1 (not that you didn't know that)

Here you go, I added 1680x1050@60Hz. Fingers crossed, hopefully it will add it back in. Just in case, just unzip the file and right click on it and click merge.

D'oh, missed a comma in the added line so it probably won't work. Here's a new one with it fixed. Glad I took a second look at it.

OK, had to redo it yet one more time. Looks like you haven't been on here since before I posted the first one, so just skip the first 2.

Xeno1, thank you for taking all this time to assist me. I actually got a little busy with something else yesterday and then headed off to bed without following up so my apologizes for the delay in my response.

I'll have to try using this updated regkey late tonight as I have a very long day ahead of me, but I'll be sure to follow up once I've attempted to use it.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Xeno1,

I updated the registry with your key and it did have the desiered impact of adding the resolution to the list of available options; however, it added it to the list of available options for the "second" monitor I have attached (Acer AL1916W) NOT the indented monitor LCM-22W3 (currently being recognized as AL1714).

At this point I'm wondering if I should go back to trying to have the AL1714 removed since it would seem like once that is address I should be able to get the resolution I need.

I have to head out again, but I'm hoping to spend a little more time investigating this once I get home late tonight.

Thanks again for help, I'll be sure to let you know what I find.

Let me know if trying that again works. I'll see if I can't figure something else out to try.
