Hi, I built my first PC last fall and I installed a liquid cooler for the CPU called Antec Kuhler 920. It came with a software called antec chill controll, but I have never got it to work, but now I am sick of trying on my own and I want to get it fixed. So the Issue is that every time i open the application i get the message: "Cannot connect to chill control device. Check USB connecten on device and restart the Chill control application." I have tried the USB wire in every dirrection and I have downloaded the two different versions aswell as even reformating once. In the device manager I don't see an "unknown device". But all the drivers I have in Universial Serial Bus controllers are from 2006. I am running Windows 7 64-bit and this is my motherboad: http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/Crosshair_V_FormulaThunderBolt/ I have also checked the BIOS and the CPU fan profile is set to manual and PWN fan. P.S. the USB wire is now on the top pins with the black wire facing to the right as in the instructions.
In Device Manager, expand 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'. You should see 'Antec CC'. If you do not, the USB connection is the point of failure.
Ever since I built it, I can never remember seeing Antec CC in the device manager, so I guess that's it then. But I have tried the USB connector from every angle and even tried a different USB connector on the motherboard. What is the next step from here? And as a side note, in the beginning I forgot to plug inn the connector and the CPU fan was going at probobly 100%, but it's pretty silent now. So I guess that proves the wire isn't faulty?
In Device Manager, expand 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'. Do you see 'Antec CC'? No guessing allowed. Ensure all connected USB headers are activated in BIOS. Use a different header.
Is it correct that I only have two headers? I have tried both. And no I don't see 'Antec CC' in Device Manager. I didn't really found any disabled USB option everything should be in order!
Your motherboard manual is here: http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/Crosshair_V_FormulaThunderBolt/#download See page 3-20 for USB port enable/disable information. You have four (4) USB2 ports on board (in the form of two banks of two). This point remains: If all USB ports are enabled AND the USB connection is intact AND Device Manager shows no Antec CC, you have a failed USB connection without regard to whether that failure is on the board or the device.
To test the motherboard for USB connection failure, connect any suitable USB device to the onboard ports and test for functionality. To test the Antec device for USB failure, connect the Antec device to a known working USB port on a working motherboard.
Turned out to be a BIOS setting! But I believe I only have 2 USB2 ports onboard and 1 USB 3.0. Now I see four USB controller icons on 'other devces' and a ethernet controller. But I have an internet connection so I only need to focus on the other ones. But even though I installed Antec CC over again, it still won't work. Any ideas? Need a different driver?
'Other devices' listed in Device Manager indicates that no driver is installed for the Antec device. In Control Panel, uninstall the Antec device and software. In Device Manager, uninstall the devices listed under 'Other Devices'. Install the Antec driver and software package.
Do not confuse two USB port groups (on the motherboard) with two USB ports. A USB port is 4 pins. A USB port group is nine pins, 4+5, and provides two USB ports. Ergo, two USB port groups, four USB ports. The following sentence is oversimplified but truthy. The ninth pin is there for a geeky purpose - more of an alignment and/or visual aid than anything else.
Aha I see! Good we have people to correct the uneducated ones like myself! Going to try your solution now.
Ok so I just did what you said and that didn't fix it, so i uninstalled everything again and I'm checking in here again to make sure I do this correctly. Does it matter if I install everything into the program files(x86) folder? I do have Win7 64-bit. Edit: turned out there was a old folder in both the x86 and regular program files folder. Where should I install it?
32-bit software installs to the x86 folder. Let the software install to its default location. There is very little documentation available through Google. I did find a reference to a "five pin USB connector". This means that the USB connector should be connected to the five pin side of the USB port group AND the BLACK wire should be facing toward pin 9 (the 'extra' pin). You made a reference earlier about a "wire facing the right" (loosely recalled/translated). Right/left = meaningless nonsense. Ensure that you comply with connected to the five pin side of the USB port group AND the BLACK wire should be facing toward pin 9 (the 'extra' pin). nerd alert - I know it is pin 10 and pin 9 is null.
I have now done all this, but still I get the error message. On the USB connectors there are 4 pins on the lower row and 5 on the upper. And the black wire is now facing the fifth, but it is not covering the pin. Every time I reboot, the unknown deviced also reappear. But I have been reinstalling many times now, and i uninstall right before rebooting.
Good. For whatever reason, the driver is failing to install. The hardware appears to function as designed and you seem to have it installed correctly. It may be that you need a 64-bit version of the software/driver. Contact Antec. I cannot assist you further. I have requested assistance from other PCHF technical staff.
