Hello - I need to install an official version of windows xp, the current version is xp but not official and need to get the service packs 2 and 3 and make it all 'proper' ! Once i get the official disc, is it as simple as just inserting the disc into the cd drive and letting it do its thing, or do i need to prepare the computer for a new installation. Any help appreciated. Thank you
Hello Newkee.. Do a clean install or format this will clean out any stuff out of there then to get your service packs you must go thru the update process.. You will probably have around 165 updates to download.. It will ask you if you want to format click yes, then it will give you the option on what partition which should be C: click yes and then let the OS install..You will have to check it about 20 minutes in to answer some questions..Name,time etc...
Check that the pc is set to boot from the CD drive, insert the XP Disc and reboot the setup will start automatically.
Seeing as apparently Newkee has not yet bought the disk it may be prudent for him to obtain something like this which already has it Sam, wouldn't you agree? http://www.amazon.co.uk/WINDOWS-XP-Pro-software-intended/dp/B0018RCAD4/ref=pd_cp_sw_h__0
