    This reg patch will stop Internet Explorer 8.0 from being downloaded.

    Copy this to notepad and save as IE8_Blocker.reg, to install, right mouse click and select merge.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup]
    @="1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0]
    "DoNotAllowIE80"=dword:00000001

    The usual disclaimer, back up your registry first before applying this.

    This give sys admins the chance to test IE 8.0 more.

    I just don't want IE 8.0 on my computer just as I did not want IE 7.0 :mrgreen:

    MS released their fix today 12 weeks after I sent the reg hack out to friends and colleagues...

    Edit: This will work in Vista as well...

    I absolutely loathe Microsofts' attempts to force their software onto people whether we have a choice in the matter or not, which is why I always make sure automatic updates are turned off - The relentless nagging to reboot reminds me of the big owl in Zelda in that you find yourself shouting at the screen to GO AWAY!!! but you know that it's unavoidable...

    The rebooting is because part of the operating system can't be changed while in use. And since Windows is sitting on DOS, by rebooting DOS makes the changes before Windows is loaded.

    There is a method to the madness.
