    Hello All,

I'm having a problem with my HP ZD8000 not booting up. When powered up the fans and DVD start monentarily, there are two beeps and the nums and caps lock flash once and the monitor remains dark.

Although the laptop seemed to run hot at times, there were no indications of a pending problem. I have tried the hard reset, without success. I've looked on the HP Support site for identifying the beeps and lights and have only come up with the lights flashing once to a "CPU not functioning", but I haven't been able to identify what the beeps mean. Any thoughts on what to look at next?

    Hello Markymark16,

Welcome to PC Help Forum. My HP NC6000 flashes once on bootup so in itself I doubt that means trouble. It is a combination of the flash codes and beep codes that gives you an idea where to look for your fault. I will post two links that I hope will be helpful to you. One is the Maintenance and Service Guide for your ZD8000 and the other is for BIOS Central so you can hopefully find the post codes you are looking for. Good luck.

By the way. Make sure you virus scan any downloads. Even from legitimate sites.:)

    Hello markymark16

Unfortunately there is very little info available concerning the ZD8000 series. You may need to contact HP directly to get an answer.

    Things to try:
2 beeps generally (but not always) points to bad RAM. Remove the RAM and turn the laptop on, do you get the same beep code?
Try reseating the ram. Clean the slots/cards if necassary using a can of compressed air.
If you have more than 1 stick of ram / slot then try the 1st stick in each slot, then try the 2nd.
Disconnect battery and AC then hold power button for atleast 15 seconds. Reconnect AC only and try again.
If capable, disconnect the hdd and cd/dvd drive and retest the laptop. This will atleast rule out those components.

Do you have the full model number? Probably found on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. It may help to find more information.

markymark16 the ZD8000 were plagued with issues from day one.
Could be the mainboard or the CPU.

You will be very surprised with the CPU installed (if you decide to open the Notebook, that is...).

If this link does not provide any help, please post the S/N and P/N of your system. I'll try to see if there is any info available.
