For all users out there who experience Battery issues on HP and Compaq Notebooks, here's some info:
A Consumer (as opposed to a Business) Notebook is under Warranty for 2 years, the Battery for 1 year.
You can Test your Battery status with HP Advisor>Dashboard>Battery Check.

If your system is a bit older, find the latest version here HP Battery Health Center

In case the application reports that your Battery is in good condition but needs to be calibrated, here are the steps you need to follow:

    • Power Down your Notebook.
    • Disconnect the AC Adapter.
    • Boot the Notebook from the Battery and enter the BIOS (F10).
    • Go to the Diagnostics Tab and select HDD Test.
    • Let the test run until the system shuts down due to a discharged Battery.
    • Connect the AC Adapter, boot the system and let your Battery charge.
    • Run the Battery Check again.

    Your Battery is now calibrated.

A similar method is described here:
HP Notebook PCs - Calibrating the Notebook Battery in Microsoft Windows 98, ME, XP, and 2000

In case you have more than one Battery attached (as I have on my 6910p) you need to follow the procedure on the secondary Battery as well.
Crush, monkeymagic and zigzag3143 like this.
