My Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't give me the latest updates of GIMP, Flash Player, in my Update manager, nor does my Terminal for updates to my flash player and GIMP. I am using version 10 of Flash player when the latest is ll, and With Gimp I am using GIMP 2.6, when the latest is Gimp 2.8. I'd like to update these, but Update Manager never has their update, and the Terminal will only update what my Update Manager has to offer. While I am clueless on how to manually download, install and set up anything on here, with Ubuntu.

I already done what GIMP's site said of deleting my current version of GIMP, and gone into Terminal for the new Version, yet the Terminal only gave me back GIMP 2.6.

Hello and welcome back Sendo Eevpix. :)

Sometimes new version of some programs don't get released on Ubuntu (and other Linux distros) for a while after they get released in source code form. That could be what happened with GIMP. For Flash have you tried to download the latest version of Flash from Adobe's website? http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Yes I went to the site. Though the problem is, I am unaware of how to download updates and such for the flash player. While there are four options, and I am unaware of which ones I need to to update my Flash.

Oh really? Well how long will it take for GIMP update to be ready, since 2.8 was release roughly two months ago, and a stable package has also been released a little afterwords?

When you go here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ once you get to the selection boxes select "Linux (32-bit)" in the first one and select "Flash player 11.2 for Ubuntu (apt)". Then you should be able to download and install Flash player. What browser do you use?

I'll have a look on my Linux installs to see what version of GIMP i can install.

Would that be all? It told me to use a program to use to Install, so I chose through Ubuntu Software Center. So it loaded up With the status of 'installed'.

While I am using Firefox 13.

If that is all, we might have skipped a step? Still using Flash 10, not 11.

    Just found this:

    http://maketecheasier.com/upgrade-to-gimp-2-8-in-ubuntu/2012/05/04

Looks like GIMP 2.8 hasn't been added to Ubuntu yet. That article will tell you how to install GIMP 2.8 using the PPA method if you don't want to wait for it to be added to Ubuntu.

OK try downloading the "Flash player 11.2 for other Linux (.tar.gz) 32-bit" version from adobe and then follow the instructions in the top post here:

    http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ub...all-flash-player-update-ubuntu-12-04-a-2.html

    See if that works.

I tried doing Flash player in downloads and followed all the steps and it gave me
" cp: cannot stat `libflashplayer.so': No such file or directory "

While I tried to make a folder in the Mozilla folder and titled it 'plugins', and the terminal still gave me that message.

Ok go to the folder where you extracted Flash player from the .tar.gz archive using your file browser. What files are in there?

Ok right click the "libflashplayer.so" file, copy and paste into this directory: "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins" See if version 11.2 of Flash player is shown in firefox.

I'll do that, but first I just checked the add-ons for my firefox. I found it has 'Shock wave 10.1 d51' and 'Shock Wave 11.2 r202'? Is that suppose to be? (No I yet to uninstall as you suggested, though I just found that when I got back on the browser)

Ah ok. looks like somehow you have two versions of flash installed. Adobe Flash player seems to be called Shockwave when viewed in browser plugin pages just to make it more confusing. Disable this one "Shock wave 10.1 d51" and see if Flash still works. if it does uninstall flash through the Ubuntu software center and then see what version of flash is in firefox if any.

Well When only had the version 10, and YouTube test, I just get black screen(Because YouTube demands latest), then I disabled that and kept version 11 enabled and YouTube test with that, well I get videos to stream, but my browser, and computer for some reason is now unstable. With crashing, closing unexpectedly, freezing up, with my loss of controls, and repetitively replaying the last sounds made by what ever I was watching.
