Ok, so this makes no sense what-so-ever. My laptop was getting extremely cluttered so I did a clean install just to start it all over and installed Windows 7 64 bit ultimate. After doing this, for some reason, hibernation is a bit "faulty". When I put it in hibernation and bring it out, it just sits at a blank screen with a flashing underscore for a long time, at least several minutes, before it finally brings up a log-in screen. If I hit the power button while at the black screen and turn it back on, it comes right out of hibernation. I thought maybe installing ubuntu on it was somewhere causing this problem with the hibernation of Windows, but then I did another clean install and the issue still occurred even with a lone boot Windows.

It's not the end of the world to have to sit there for several minutes or turn the computer on, off, and back on to get back into Windows. Any idea how to resolve this or what may be causing it? I can provide some more information, but the only thing that changed is I went from Windows 7 64 bit home premium to ultimate so I could finally just backup my computer to my network. Dumbest idea I think to take that option out of the lower versions.

Boot into the BIOS - choose to restore to the base default options.

Worked for my friend with similar problem.

No luck on resetting the bios settings. No idea what could cause this because it does it right out of the box. I haven't messed with any settings.

Any ideas at all. Pretty sure it can't be good for the computer to have to restart it multiple times in a row repeatedly.

Hi, as your profile shows as "very experienced", can you tell us how much RAM you have and how your virtual memory settings are currently configured?

    Hello dochalladay32

Please, AFTER doing what Hengis asked, can you post a screenshot of your Device Manager?
Also: What type of system are we talking about?

Thanks for anything you guys can do.

I have 3 gb of ram, and didn't mess with anything on that end when reinstalling.
As for virtual memory, I have a system managed page file of also 3 gb. Don't remember what it was before I reinstalled, but pretty sure it was no higher than that.

My system is a Compaq CQ60, like I said, came with Windows 7 Home Premium with a 2.2 Ghz processor. Came with 2 GB of ram and I upgraded to 3 when I bought this back in February. Everything worked fine before I did, which makes me feel kind of stupid for doing it, but hey, at least I can back up to my network now lol.

So the OS is looking for something, when it eventually can't find it the PC wakes up or when you hit a key it thinks nowhere to go and then wakes up.

So what is it looking for? Maybe 64bit drivers for graphics, sound, USB, anything.

    Not much help I know.

Well to get it to go faster, I have to turn it off completely, then I turn it on, repeat the process of selecting Windows from GRUB and magically, it works instantly despite taking its sweet time the first time. I could go through the Compaq site and download all the drivers and make sure they are up to date. Maybe just because Windows found everything on install doesn't mean it found all the most up-to-date drivers.

Not to sound like an a** or anything, but if I'm returning from hibernation, loading into safe mode isn't an option :D. It appears to load fine when shutting down, restarting, returning from sleep anything like that. It just wants to be a pain when returning from hibernation. It's like that movie wild hogs. The first time, you just get its attention; the 2nd time, it starts reacting. I'd just rather it work the first time to save me the patience.

No idea - switch off anything to do with hibernation. But I'm not an expert.

I'll try updating video drivers in a bit, but yea, I've tried turning hibernation off and back on. Tried the whole hybrid sleep thing, but I don't like sleep period because I put my laptop in a zipcase and it being on, it gets hot fast in one of those things in sleep mode. Hibernate has just always done the trick.

Reupdated the video drivers, no hope. Tried changing the screwy resolution it gives me as standard (1366x768) to 1360x768, and still no hope. I can't figure out at all why it takes 2 restarts to get it to work. Nothing makes sense.
