I recently installed an ATI Radeon HD4650 video card (model# GV-R465D2-1GI) on a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 motherboard running XP32.

Since it was installed, everynight the computer will BSOD/restart. I awake every morning with a "System has recovered from a serious error" message.

I was using the driver from the install CD. I went on AMD's website and the only driver they have for it is HotFix 11.5 which was released on 5/9/11. After installing this the system will BSOD on boot up, so I had to safe mode driver roll back.

The latest driver that Gigabyte has for the video card is 8.66 RC9 released on 9/28/09. With this driver installed the system will boot, but still gives the orginal problem of "serious error" messages. I currently have this driver installed.

This is the Error Signature from the message:

    BCCode : 100000be BCP1 : B889F9D9 BCP2 : 127C0121 BCP3 : BA4D3C28
    BCP4 : 0000000A OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

This problem only happens at night while I am sleeping. It never onced happened during the day. I don't use a screen saver and the only program that runs automatically at 1am is Karen's Replicator backup software. It usually runs for 30-90 minutes every night. I am not sure if there is some conflict there.

I am not sure of this site's procedure for handling BSOD so please give me the next step I would need to take to resolving this issue.

    Thank You.

attached is my PCHF folder. I am not sure if I scanned at the correct time. I have not rebooted since the last BSOD happened. Hopefully it contains all the info needed. If not, please let me know

All of these were related to your video driver, most were Related to nvatabus.sys NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Performance Driver.

I would re-install both your video driver and the nvatabus.sys

Do what zigzag suggests but may I add remove the driver in this manner.
    {Grins Ken}

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

    Or Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

My video driver is version 8.660, which is not the current. A driver scan program that I use tells me that the recommended driver is version 8.741, released on 5/27/10.

AMD and Gigabyte's sites only has one driver each for this video card. AMD's is newer than 5/27/10 but it causes my system to BSOD on boot up. Gigabyte's is older than 5/27/10 and I have installed it several times over with the same issue.

I am looking for driver version 8.741 released on 5/27/10, but having a hard time locating it.

As for the nvatabus.sys driver, I am not familiar with this and would need futher instructions on reinstalling this.

Nvatabus is Related to nvatabus.sys NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Performance Driver. I would go to Nvidia and see if they have a removal tool, or an updated version.

I have located video driver 8.741 and have it installed.

I could not find the nvatabus.sys driver. Could someone be able to post a link or attach the driver file here if you have access to it?

to follow up, I have not had a BSOD since installing video driver 8.741. It has only been a day and a half, but this is the longest it has gone without one.

I have not yet tried to update the nvatabus.sys driver yet. If another BSOD happens, I will look into updating that.

Please leave this thread open to allow a few days for me to confirm the issue is corrected.

computer survived another night without a BSOD/restart.

is it possible that the old video driver was causing a conflict with the nvatabus.sys and the new video driver works fine with it?

I am not familiar with the scan program this site uses for BSOD's so I am not sure how to read the logs myself.

I had another issue that I didn't realized it was related to this until recently.

When I installed the video driver, Windows stoped detecting my CD drive as soon as I rebooted to finish the driver install. BIOS would still detect the drive, but Windows would not.

I was having trouble finding the nvatabus.sys file on the nvidia website. So I figured I would just let Windows install it automatically.

I opened Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and clicked Nvidia Driver. It then gave me the option to pick which driver to remove. I checked the IDE driver and rebooted.

Upon rebooting, I was expecting Windows to detect new hardware but it didn't. I am not sure if Windows automatically installed a new IDE driver, or if it still had an older one availible to use.

Now Windows reads my CD drive fine. Hopefully this will clear up the conflict with the video driver since it was having issues with the IDE driver.

I will keep this posted if any further BSOD accurs with another log file.
