I have an Ascer Aspire 5612WLMI, its almost a year old.

In the last couple of months I have been having problems with the display.

Sometimes from cold boot I get a green tint to everything. The acer boot screen, whilst windows is booting up and the windows desktop. Not only that but the task bar at the bottom of the screen is totally distorted and mashed up. There is no pattern in this, it happens very randomly some days its fine others its not. It can also happen in the middle of using the computer when the bootup was fine.

To try and takle this I did a complete system restore back to factory settings. This unfortunalty hasnt solved my problem which I guess kind of indicates its not the driver?

I have spoken to Acer support (or the people they contract to do it) they had no idea and just want me to send it back for repair which Id rather not do as I need my computer!

Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be. My laptop is not next to anything like phones/speakers etc as its always used in different places.

Has anyone encounted this problem before or can offer any advice?

It sounds like its either the LCD inverter, LCD backlight, Ribbon cable or the LCD itsself.

Send it back if its still under warranty, if you attempt to fix it yourself they may refuse to fix it under warranty.

If its the ribbon it should just be a case of reseating it, the inverter is a cheap fix also but the backlight and LCD is a totally different story. I recently had a similar problem on an old-ish laptop of mine (IBM Thinkpad) and just said sod it and replaced the entire screen assembly and inverter which was pretty cheap as the laptop is fairly old and you can pick up parts/broken ones on ebay, so for me it cost about £20 for the fix, Im inclined to think it'd be different with a new acer.

Sorry this is long winded but bottom line is, if its under warranty: Get it back before warranty runs out and you're left with a hefty repair bill

    EDIT: Definitely a hardware problem.
