    HI there

I've been having problems with my computer for a while now and still trying to track down the problem.

Recently I've had graphic slowdown in games and even on the desktop, when moving a window I'd get multiple edges of the window (like the graphics card couldn't keep up) and graphic anomalies within utility programs (animated images in programs such as Registry Mechanic were black and then would slowly display correctly from top-bottom).

So I uninstalled the driver for my ati HD3870x2 and installed version 10.10, nothing improved. My timing was lucky as version 11 came out a few days later, which I installed and still things didn't change, in fact they got worse. I had a ati2dvag BSOD. This happened every time I moved a window on the desktop. I've heard of this happening on some machines with version 11.

So here's the funny thing. I uninstalled the driver and now, without a driver installed the computer is perfect, no slowdown and no graphic anomalies!

Should I try going back to an older driver maybe 9.9?

    Cheers

Remove all vestiges of earler drivers with the trusted DriverSweeper. Then install the most current driver.

    Reoccurring graphics problem

    HI

I've recently posted here regarding a graphic problem. see below.

    http://www.pchelpforum.com/graphics/103816-graphics-driver-problem.html

I followed the advice and did a quick check and all seemed fine. Anyway the upshot is I've still got the same problem.

Last night the game I was playing for 3 hours or so (not playing for 3 hours, I had it on pause while I watched tv for one of those hours), got very low frame rates.

So this morning I ran DPC Latency Checker. While the utility was running I moved the Latency checker window to free space for Device Manager and the computer froze and up popped the BSOD with the ati2dvag error again.

I'm beginning to think it could be the graphics card.

First Make sure your graphics card is compatible with your compueter and
Second, download the latest update for your OS.
Third, Uninstall your old Driver for your graphics Using the link in my signature called Guru 3D Drivers Sweeper.
and fourth, Make sure your installing the right drivers for your OS.
and don't have any other program running in the background or anti-virus.

Ok just a bit more details:

Firstly the computer I use has remained the same spec for the last three years with no problems.

This problem only started after I'd installed the lastest AMD driver software.

I've tried uninstalling with Driver Sweeper, done everything in safe mode. Updated Microsoft .Net Framework, updated Lan drivers, done a full os update. I have the last bios for my motherboard, it's old, but there aren't any others.

I also scoured the web and followed many so called fixes but nothing works.

Here are my files. thanks for offering to look at them.

I do have more than one spyware program but one is disabled at startup. I have this because I am told to download these extra utilities to find the problems my computer my have.

I've never had so many on my machine. HijackThis, MBRCheck, Speedfan, Latency Checker, Malware to name a few.

    Thanks

Things are getting worse. I'm now on my Mac as I can't finish a post on my PC before I get the ati2dvag error.

Firefox and Thunderbird are now crashing! Which could point to a LAN driver which is helping to cause the problem. I have updated these though. Previously (1 week ago) Latency Checker did indicate a problem, so I disabled the LAN, ran Latency Checker again and nothing was flagged for 15min, so I presumed it was ok.

I have an old Radeon x1900XT which I'm thinking of installing to hopefully remove my HD3870X2 out of the equation.

    Cheers

Apologies for the delay, Grosvenor. I'll get your thread relocated to the BSOD forum for review by the BSOD techs.

While you wait, you might want to review the PCHF tutorial for a Clean Video Driver Installation. Chances are good that you have already followed this procedure, but you never know - something might have been missed.

    Hi there,

Seems like it might be the Hardware itself because the stacks are pointing to "hal!HalpQueryPerformanceCounter+0x1f" mich most of time used to be Hardware related.

    Run the following Test:

Try this free video stress test: FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
    FurMark Setup:
    - If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
    - In the Run mode box, select “Stability Test” and “Log GPU Temperature”
Click “Go” to start the test
    - Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out – or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
    - Click “Quit” to exit
Try this free stress test: Free Software – GIMPS
    Prime95 Setup:
    - extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
    - double click on the executable file
    - select “Just stress testing”
    - select the “Blend” test. If you’ve already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the “Small FFTs” test instead.
    - “Number of torture test threads to run” should equal the number of CPU’s times 2 (if you’re using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager…Performance tab – and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours – or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

    Code:
    THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M (100000ea)
The device driver is spinning in an infinite loop, most likely waiting for
hardware to become idle. This usually indicates problem with the hardware
itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
If the kernel debugger is connected and running when watchdog detects a
timeout condition then DbgBreakPoint() will be called instead of KeBugCheckEx()
and detailed message including bugcheck arguments will be printed to the
debugger. This way we can identify an offending thread, set breakpoints in it,
and hit go to return to the spinning code to debug it further. Because
KeBugCheckEx() is not called the .bugcheck directive will not return bugcheck
information in this case. The arguments are already printed out to the kernel
debugger. You can also retrieve them from a global variable via
    "dd watchdog!g_WdBugCheckData l5" (use dq on NT64).
On MP machines it is possible to hit a timeout when the spinning thread is
interrupted by hardware interrupt and ISR or DPC routine is running at the time
of the bugcheck (this is because the timeout's work item can be delivered and
handled on the second CPU and the same time). If this is the case you will have
to look deeper at the offending thread's stack (e.g. using dds) to determine
spinning code which caused the timeout to occur.
    Arguments:
Arg1: 89f7d020, Pointer to a stuck thread object. Do .thread then kb on it to find
        the hung location.
    Arg2: 8a886558, Pointer to a DEFERRED_WATCHDOG object.
Arg3: ba4ebcbc, Pointer to offending driver name.
Arg4: 00000001, Number of times "intercepted" bugcheck 0xEA was hit (see notes).
