My Optus ADSL is 16.3 mbps as I live just under 2 Klm's from the exchange. With the new Optus NBN fibre second tier, 25 megabits a second for downloads and 5 megabits a second for uploads. So I would see a substantial speed increase ( crossing fingers and sundry dangly bits)...
The trouble with that speed test, the file is not big enough for my connection to max out. When I download a file I can suck it down at 1.3 Mega Bytes per second approx. This is to Brisbane 400 Klms away... To London UK. such speed...
According to the program listing for today Rip Off Britain will be showing this tonight at 8:30PM GMT.
I haven't checked my email yet but I reckon Virgin has come up with the goodies as promised. Their servers were down for about 4 hours yesterday which is the longest I've ever known. Anyway I ran Speedtest this morning and well............
Thanks H I ran a test down to Birmingham and even got 50Mb on that one. I'd advise all the other lads running Virgin to check their speed now.
Lucky You Wolfey, I don't get the speed upgrade until somewhere between October'12 and July '13 It seems that anywhere southwest of Bristol gets forgotten about or left until last... Alas, I get 9.90 from a 10Meg service so can't really grumble, a neighbour gets 5.5 from an 'up to' 20meg service from one of thoses other ISP's.... *EDIT* In keeping with the distance test being conducted in this thread I'm getting 1.09 to Brisbane... which is actually better than my employer gets, but then my workplace is on the very end of the copper cable (4.5 miles from the exchange)
