Power grid is top notch don't think it's the problem, I live in a pretty wealthy neighborhood so I don't think thats the problem.

Lately I have been restarting the game after every match and haven't had a BSOD in a while... it could be just that dota 2 is one big unoptimized beta I think.

Games don't cause crashes on stable systems.
Still waiting on that PSU data.

On the PSU sticker which is conveniently located on the PSU.

OK. I have to admit I'm no hardware expert (well, I don't even try to pose as one, tbh :p), but consider this:

5870 power consumption under load is ~350W as per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5870,2422-20.html
That means at 12V you need about ~30A on a single rail, whereas you have only 25A. That's the problem with dual and triple rail power supplies, they usually don't cut it.

Can you borrow a new/better PSU for testing? Some stores will accept hardware back inside a few days as long as its in mint condition.

Unfortunately I don't think I can get a new PSU for about 2 months.

I don't think the PSU would be the problem though, seeing as Dota 2 is really the only game that causes crashing?

This thread has escaped my attention, sorry about that.

The problem about here is that your PSU is possibly giving in under load. If you're stressing it only with Dota, it's no wonder only Dota makes the system crash.

Haha no problem, as soon as I can get the money to spare I'll try getting a new PSU. I'm also gonna be getting new RAM sticks in the next week or so, so I can swap those in and see if it makes a difference.

Like I said, some stores will allow you to practically borrow a component for a duration of few days. You have to pay for the equipment, but they'll take it back as long as it's in original wrapping.

If the card requires two 6-pin/4-pin PCIe connectors, use one from the 12V rails each, not any one single rail.

And the power consumption is at the source(whole system) not the card. So your PSU shouldn't be a problem here.

Would that PSU even offer two or more 4/6 pin connectors from the same rail?

Should offer at least one on each rail.
