I want to print some documents and I had only bought a spare black cartridge as the others seemed to full enough, and I seldom need to print in colors.

I suddenly began receiving a message warning that the cyan color is empty and the printer is not printing anything and according to the manual the light that is showing is because of the empty cartridge.

Why won't my Epson printer print a document when a color cartridge is empty? Can I use it without inserting a new color cartridge?

It seems that it is not possible to use only black ink due to technical issues as it is given at the end of the page you provided.
