    Hi,
I have a Samsung SH-S22xSATA DVDRW and a DVD-ROM 16X installed in my PC which is running Vista 7 (newly installed). The PC is 18 months old. Until today both DVD drives worked perfectly but suddenly neither will play a disc.

The "tell tail" on each drive flashes when I insert a disc and close the drawer but notheing else happens. When I eject the disc after it has been in the drive for a few minutes it is warm. This applies to purchased and to home recorded films.

I haven't installed any new software other than Windows 7, or hardware since the last time the drives worked.

Any clues as to what may be causing the problem and suggested remedies would be appreciated.

    :)

 I have just realised that I said I had just installed Vista 7, I should have said Firefox 7.01

    Sorry.

Thanks for that prompt reply. I did run this software yesterday before posting on the forum but I have just done so again and the result is still "CD/DVD drive not detected" - "Your CD/DVD can't read or write media".

Since the only change to my system, as far as I know, since the drives worked was the instalation of Firefox 7.01 it seems logical to uninstall it and see if that cures the problem so I'll do that and let you know the result.

    :)

Thanks for the replies. I un-installed Firefox 7.01 and installed Firefox 4 and the dvd played for about 15 mins then stopped and wouldn't restart. I've now reinstalled 7.01 but not tried the DVD yet.

I've run out of time just now but I'll pick it up tomorrow and try the suggestions you've made and report the results.

    Hi,
I ran the the first of the links suggested by nameisuser and it appears to have solved the problem in one of my two drives. I do recall having some problems with the other drive earlier, some times it worked and some times it didn't so I think it must be knackered. I could replace it but I don't really need it so I'll just leave it as it is for now.
Once again thank you for your assistance. Do keep up the good work.
