I have spent MANY hours trying to set up my modem and router so that I can have a wireless network independent of my desktop, since I rarely use my pc since purchasing an ipad2. I basically only need a wireless signal for my iPad and to watch Netflix through my xbox 360. My problem is, I have logged into the router's settings (you know, where u type in the 192.168.0.1) and have configured it. It shows that it has a connection, and my iPad and xbox detects the wireless network BUT when I try to connect using them, it says that I do not have an Internet connection. I have turned off all of the security settings, power cycles it, etc but to no avail. all of the appropriate lights are on, on both the modem and router. I suspect that there is just some setting that needs to be change, but I have literally come to the end of my rope with this. I'm hoping someone can PLEEEEEASE help.

Just a side note: I do have the router connected to my pc at this time because I knew I had to configure the two with my pc before I could make them independent of it.

Thanks so much for any help.

The only problem i can see from the description would be that its possibly a physical configuration problem. So just the verify internet flow its WALL----MODEM------ROUTER's INTERNET PORT. Aside from that you may want to try updating the routers firmware.

have you checked which wireless mode the router is operating on? If the router was using 802.11n Greenfield mode it would only accept N clients, for example. When you say you have power cycled the router, do you mean hard reset? <- this would clear any security/filtering etc. What is the make/model of the router?

Also, look in your router's menu options for a setting that says "QOS" (quality of service)...in my D-link this option was enabled by default...disabling it solved problems for me...
