    Ray,

I've got DSL & the same Linksys modem as you at my home. Let me check it tonight when I get home - I honestly don't recall entering PPPoE, but I know that I'm not set to static.

I'll check my configuration and post back with it.

YES, OF COURSE - Lone Wolf and I would be DELIGHTED to assist you. Believe me, we would get much more happiness from helping you succeed than watching you "walk away".

Thanks for your willingness to stay with us. We will get you there!

    @Lone Wolf - Thanks again!

a little more info - i went to the linksys site and did a chat session with their tech. after we checked the router and modem ip addresses for conflict he suggested configuring the router for automatic DHCP .
i printed out the eight steps to do this and completed them but still no connection. i could post this transcript (sorta lenghtly) if it would be of any help..
even if this DHCP did work wouldn't there be another step in windows before being able to get online ?

I'll take a look at home. My mind is a bit foggy today and just can't think this through without my Linksys close at hand. I seem to recall that it was an easy setup.

I recently had a friend that purchased a Linksys WiFi card for her desktop and couldn't figure out how to put it in the system. She called Linksys tech support, spent about 45 minutes with them and ended up being told that she hadn't purchased the right product. She & I spent about 15 minutes on the phone later and got the card inserted and working in the system - AFTER she Turned It Around. Manufacturer's tech support isn't always right....

I'm in the Central time zone, should be able to get on after I get the kids to bed. Maybe about 9:30 PM.....

    Thanks!

I have uploaded a screen shot of my configuration page. I hope this helps you.

I'll be off and on for the next few hours. Check back if you are able!

Your home computers would need to be setup for DHCP IP addressing. You can access this by Right Clicking My Network Places -> Properties -> Right Click the Local Area Connection -> Properties -> Highlight TCP/IP -> Properties -> Set both Obtain IP Address and Obtain DNS Address to Automatic

DO change the default Home Network name on the router to something other than Linksys.

I've attached a screen shot of my Routing Table as well (found that entry on the Advanced option - far right of Wired Setup). The 69. addressing (2nd & 3rd) entries are from my ISP.

EDIT: attachments removed - no longer needed

So, i finally got online thru the router and now it's on to getting networked to second pc..
what seemed to have worked in this case was to log into
192.168.1.1 and go straight to "mac address clone tab"-
enable "clone" -click "clone this pc's mac"-save settings-
go to "wireless tab- rename "ssid" set to channel 11 -save settings-

go to "wireless security tab- set security mode - create wireless password - save settings
go to setup tab - change local router's settings to
    10.10.10.1 save settings

this didn't involve any user name or password from ISP

I'm REALLY glad you didn't. What an accomplishment!

Excellent! I'll get this marked as FIXED.

Please stop back by - I've found PCHF a great place to learn new things, ask questions, or resolve issues. There's someone available on-line to assist or even just chat most hours of the day or night.

    Take care! Enjoy the network.

Great news rayokeefe I'm very glad to hear you got it working.

I'd been suspicious of that whole password thing the ISP tech told you right from the start as the average router is for the most part ready to go out of the box except for some personalized settings and at times the need to use the clone feature.

    Well done.

Hi trpticon31, for what it's worth, i struggled with configuring a Linksys WRT54G connected to DSL and the following is what worked for me. hope it helps>>>>

TO CONFIGURE WIRELESS ROUTER TO DSL MODEM - MARCH 2009
1 -reset router to default settings -disconnect power from router for 1-min.
2 - connect computer to port #1 on router but do not connect modem yet.
3 - open browser, go to 192.168.1.1 linksys setup site -
go straight to "mac address clone sub tab "
enable clone, click "clone this PCs MAc" - save settings
4 - go to "administration tab, change password to your own preference - save settings - (this will be your password for the "Linksys Setup Site) .
5 - go to Wireless Tab - change "SSID" to whatever you like -set channel to "11" - enable "SSID Broadcast" - save settings
6 - go to "Wireless Security" sub tab, set security "Mode" to "WEP" then enter any 10 digit number in "Key 1"
this will be your wireless password - save settings -
7 - go back to "Setup" tab, change "Local IP Address" to
10.10.10.1 - save settings - *this will bring up a message to perform "release/renew " OK this , and browser will close
    8 - Start/run/cmd - ipconfig/release- enter then -ipconfig/renew - this will change ip settings to 10.10.10.1
Finally turn off all - turn on router, wait til router fully lighted then modem, and computer.
