I have Kaspersky as active antivirus (in WindowsXP). This is good but when autoupdate goes on, my computer becomes extremely slow including the browser (firefox). Is there any satisfactory solution to this problem?

I can think of two possible solutions:

    1. Set Kaspersky to update when your computer is connected to the Internet, but you are not using it. For example, if you have a lunch break at 1pm, then set Kaspersky to autoupdate at 1pm.

    2. Find a different antivirus. I quite like Microsoft Security Essentials and Auslogics Antivirus.

Or of course you can disable autoupdate altogether and update manually.

Use Kaspersky's website to download the updates manually, as it is safer than using a third party website to get them.

    Antivirus Database Updates

Dirks suggestion is very good as it will cause the least disruption to your web surfing, especially if you set it up to do it at night time when you are sleeping...
