Computer Specs. My computer is locking up lately and only turning off/on works. The computer locks up with in 10 mins. of booting. I have restored a good drive image of windows thinking it was a software problem, but to no avail. I have swapped out the graphics card, no change. I have swapped out the RAM, no change. I replaced the Power supply in March, so I am hoping that is not the problem. The computer will run fine and does not freeze, in safe mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance... Yes, I know the computer is old, but the kids need something to play games on
Welcome to PCHF Since you say that the machine performs well in safemode lets make sure that malware is not an issue please complete the instructions in the link below and Attach the requested logs. http://www.pchelpforum.com/xf/threads/prework-please-read-before-posting.131846/
Yes, See Attached log. I had to run aswMBR in save mode, due to the computer freezing up before it could finish in normal mode. Does the issue seemed to be a software or a hardware problem?
Welcome to PCHF! I'm Crush but, you can call me Chris too and I will be helping you with your Malware issues. Please note, this may or may not solve other issues you’re having with your PC. A few things to keep in mind as we progress: 1. We are all volunteer staff here so we log in and assess threads when real life, work, family, and other obligations permit. Additionally, we are located all over the world. There may be a bit of a time delay due to this. 2. Malware Removal threads are very time intensive. Each entry must be researched until it can be said with 100% certainty whether or not it can stay or needs to be removed. Sometimes additional work is needed to weed out suspect entries 3. This may turn into a long ordeal but, rest assured we will stay with you until you are completely disinfected. 4. Please do not run any tools or fixes unless asked to do so by myself or a member of the Security Team 5. If you are not the original poster of this thread DO NOT run any fixes given to the poster in this thread. They are all custom tailored specifically to this user. It could prove to be disastrous. 6. Please keep responding until I give you the "All Clear". Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. 7. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe. 8. If you have any questions or issues please stop and ask! We are all here to help. IMPORTANT: Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop. Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start. If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly . Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do so, click More Options and scroll down until you see this: Make sure both checkboxes are checked With that out of the way: Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes.org. Alternate link: Download Mirror (Note: if you already have the program installed, just follow the directions. No need to re-download or re-install!) Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. (Note: if you already have the program installed, open Malwarebytes from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut, click the Update tab, and click Check for Updates, before doing the scan as instructed below!) Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. If you are prompted to restart, please allow it to restart your computer. Failure to do this, will cause the infection to still be active on the computer. Please save the log to a location you will remember. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. The log can also be found at C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.
