DCi, I think I will just return the product. If it is causing this much problem then I don't think it is worth the effort.

Do you think I'd have the same issues if I got a replacement?

I'm hopeful that the issue with this is something of a fault between the USB connection on the external and the ports of the system having the recognize issue. Hoping that this is a "one off" and wouldn't be repeated with replacement hardware. Sadly, no guarantees though.....

I would agree - RMA (return merchandise authorization) is your best solution for this now.

Just to add to my luck, the USB cable leading from the Ext. HDD to my PC has ripped open. :(

That's £50+ gone down the drain :/ They probably wont accept it back.

Contact the vendor. That should be covered. That's a fault of their hardware, NOT your use.

NO USBs are working now? Argh!

Restore to the System Restore point you created PRIOR to performing the MS FixIt. Any change?

Okay - let's step backwards. The final thing you did in an attempt to fix the USB External connectivity was the FixIt, right? You now have done a System Restore to the point taken BEFORE the FixIt was applied. and still NO USB devices work.

Durn it! Please try REMOVING all USB devices again from Device Manager. Power Down. Press in the Power button until the power light in the button is off. Power on. Any change?

What are the USB devices not connecting, Cloudy? A USB mouse, keyboard, what else?
