    :) Hi Hatters,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you. My back went out on me over the weekend.

Here is the thing, it may be fine, however, there are slight vibrations that are caused by the cd running. If it is just a little bit loose, it may start up, and then the little vibrations can make it a little looser, and then it stops.

But if you would prefer we can look at other options. It may be that your restore CD is damaged. Check it for scratches and dirt. I can walk you through getting a bootable CD that will get you to a place where you will be able to wipe the PC. If your restore CD is still good, that will allow you to reload. However, you will lose all of your data.

Let me know what you would like to do. We'll keep an eye out for your post.

Just to note... typically a 0x50 STOP error indicates an issue with the data on the hard drive and not the hard drive itself. Swapping hard drives fixed the problem cause the corrupted data was no longer there to cause an issue. I would imagine you could insert the old drive into a USB enclosure and read the "lost" data off of it onto your new one. Obviously, make sure to scan for malware and viruses before copying anything over :)

    oops, forgot...

From exprience, it could be the hard drive or memory if the blue screen continues after a full format and reinstall. Even the fact that a blue screen occured before you got to the recovery section from the disk could still mean data corruption. In this case however it seems likely that the hard drive has a bad sector in a critical section where the boot sector and partition table are stored since when some cd's are read from the Cd-rom drive it accesses that info on the hard drive. Let us know if the issue comes back after a while... if so, the memory might be the culprit :(

I've tried another trick to tell if a HDD is bad, put it in a plastic baggy and put it in the freezer for about 15 - 20 minutes, take it out and re-install it.It has not failed me yet, SO FAR!?!? Keep up the good work!!

P.S. I don't know if it would have worked in this case though!?

Yay!!! I just fixed mine! I was holding my breath! LOL! had the 0x00000050 BSOD, Unplugged the internet, ran combofix, put in vista ultimate dvd,ran restore wizard, it repaired, but did not take care of the BSOD. I then did a system restore and that took care of the BSOD. I have to update everything now though. It showed on the Combofix scan log that about 6 files were missing out of system 32(A Driver & A few other files) Seems to work fine though, I'm going to update everything & go from there. just thought I would share A little bit. Later guys & gals!
