    Hi all,

i seem to be having random reboots with my computer and unable to diagnose
what seems to be causing this. These issues has been occurring since a
couple years ago. So what i did was format the computer and reinstall
everything. This seem to have solved the issue for approx 6-12 months
until this happens again. Last year i have installled a linux distro into
this computer and has been working perfectly. So no random reboots or any
errors occur. Until the beginning of this year i reinstalled windows xp
onto this computer and reinstalled all theware onto this computer. It was
working fine until this week. The original issues came back.

i believed it was a faulty ram at first so have ran memtest86+ for an
entire night. It completed with no issues. i later was told my cousin had
the same issue and was able to tell me that it was his grapphics card
causing the issue. So i ran a burnin test. CPU calculations, ram , 2d
rendering and 3d rendering tests was done. again all passed without an
    issue.

Now i have no idea what seems to be causing the issue. i read the dump
logs but unable to pinpoint what can be cauing this issue.

    So what are the issues:
    - Random reboots during web browsing/ watching videos
    - Sometimes freezes on the black windows loading screen (sometimes after
    reboot
    - BSOD with error code 0x0000007f and other bunch of other codes usually followed by a hard restart
    - BSOD with messages saying if you have installed new hw please remove and
    test again
    - BSOD IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    - BSOD PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    Tried:
    - Ram stress test (memtest86+)
    - Burnin tests
    - Viewing eventlogs (Shows no errors)
    - Stopped from programs from starting up on windows startup(this helped for a week)

Unfortunately i am unable to provide the latest dumps as my computer is now getting BSODs upon bootups. These are dumps from last week. It's not as severe as todays but it's when my computer is starting to play up. So it's when the Bsod, freezes and error messages starts to occur.

i am currently running memtest86+ again to make sure the ram isn't faulty. will send the results later during the day.

i'll be grateful if you are able to help me what is causing these issues.

    Many thanks
    Raymond

    Hello Dragon, welcome to PCHF.

What version of Avast are you running, Free, Pro or Internet Security?

Since your not able to boot in Normal mode, are you able to boot in Safe Mode?

    Hi madmonkey,

i'm currently running avast home edition. so it's the free one. about the memtest86+ i have ran for approx 6hrs and no issues were found.

Yesterday when i finally gave up doing software diagnostic tests for the hw i decided to open up my computer and checked for bulging/rusty capacitors and have found non. So i decided to do the next step. Remove each slot of ram until problem goes away. So i booted up the computer with all 4 bars of ram. It booted up fine and worked perfectly. i tried stressing the computer again with burnin tests and still unable to get the bsod i got before. i checked the mini dump folder and saw nothing was inside.

This really annoyed me as it made troubleshooting impossible and the4 issue will come back in the near future.

So just wondering madmonkey would you have any idea what can be causing these issues. or would say that either the ram or mb is about to fail.

Generally cleanup tools like Disk Cleanup will clear out the minidump folder.

It sounds like you may have already solved the problem, but not sure exactly how and probably worried that the problem will return?

Unfortunately, the two logs were not too helpful in narrowing down the possibilities as Avast was the active process during both of them. Avast acts as a kind of middle man in many functions, and since the logs only show us the final moment before death so to speak, it's doesn't show anything before Avast, but I do know what it was trying to do.

I would have liked to have seen the logs for the 0x7F stop error would have probably given a more clearer picture, but it did appear to be a hardware problem, usually caused by pushing hardware beyond it's capabilities in some form, such as overheating, overclocking or insufficient power. Mismatching memory modules or even something as simple as poor motherboard contact... you did say you had removed each stick of RAM? perhaps that's all it needed.

If it was down to failing hardware, the problem would still be present, and you still wouldn't be able to boot right now. ;)
