Solved BSOD - Possible Bad Hardware?

Ok so here's the story: I built this computer a little over 1 year ago, has been running fine, occasional BSOD once in a blue moon, but about 4 months ago i started getting them like 1-2 times a week, sometimes more and it didn't seem to matter what i was doing at the time. I tried updating BIOS/drivers/ect nothing seemed to work. So about 2 months ago i put a fresh install of windows 7 and then the comp went into a box until last week since it was right before i moved. Now i have it setup and running again gotten 3 BSOD's in the last week. I do have an overclocked i5-750 (stock 2.67 to 3.2 with .01 voltage increase). It was tested prime95 stable during my first bout of BSOD's (4 months ago) along with memtest giving the all clear on the RAM. I dropped the overclock yesterday down to 3ghz, and after this post im gonna start testing with memtest and rum prime95 again.

Edit: Memtest did two passes on each stick and came back clear

**I do not remember the exact error codes from the BSOD's this summer, but i know they were all also the Kernel Power errors leading me to believe ive got some faulty hardware.

OCZ 700W (fairly certain its the "StealthXStream" version
4GB Gskill Ripjaws 1600 @ 1450 (or somewhere around there, it defaults to 1333, and when i changed the BCLK it put it just under 1600)
NZXT Lexa S average case temps 40C or less
2 HDD's dont remember the brands though.

*I am running some type of 'power conditioner' (i think that's what he called it. my dad gave it to me, said it was good for computers?). Googling around for a few minutes did not find anything out about it, i think it may be kinda old though so i am going to try running without it for a while. Anyone has any info on this thing also greatly appreciated.

Your log files show that these errors were caused by memory corruption. With this kind of stop error, it's likely that whatever hardware (often RAM), or software (often 3rd party drivers) have already done it's damage some time before the stop errors occurred. For that reason, these BSOD's are a symptom of another problem and we need to investigate further.

INITIAL SUSPECT(S) (in order of most likely)
If any of the following software/drivers may have been installed or updated around the time these stop errors occurred, please let us know.

sptd.sys and dtsoftbus01.sys - Daemon Tools drivers
Well known for causing stop errors, not to mention that many AV's tend to detect this driver as malware due to it's "rootkit like" characteristics. Forcefully attempting to remove this driver from an AV often results in.. further stop errors! Use your original CD's.. but if you must use virtual CD software, consider using something like MagicDisc instead, which is also free.

Hardware
Pretty obvious to expect possible stability problems if the system is overclocked, but memory corruption can also be caused by motherboard or RAM issues as well. The surge protector is a good thing to have there.

FURTHER INVESTIGATION
If problems persist, we use a tool called "verifier" to more accurately track down potential driver issues. Instructions for using verifier can be found: here

In terms of hardware, reduce clock speeds to normal would be the first necessary step.

Ok thank you for looking into this. I have just finished running Prime95 for 23 hours and it came back with no errors. Memtest86 ran 2 passes on each stick of ram and cleared them. So in terms of hardware next in line would be the motherboard which im not entirely sure i can even test for defects. I also have been running without the surge protector thing since i started the Prime test, thinking maybe it was getting old and going bad? Im not sure since i know nothing about it.

In terms of software, i do have daemon tools installed. I have had it for quite some time now though (same version) and i also have it running on 2 laptops with no issues. I dont remember exactly when i installed it to this computer but it didnt cause any errors at the time (usually the first thing i do when i get a BSOD is uninstall the last week or two worth of programs) If i get another BSOD i will uninstall it and see if they go away.

No problems, don't forget if your problems continue after that, we can use verifier, which will catch the offending driver with it's pants down (so to speak), as I mentioned, memory corruption is only the symptom.

ok so i uninstalled daemon tools about a week ago, thought i was in the clear. just got another BSOD. I followed the thread and ran the verifier, windows will not even start. flashes "starting windows" and then black screen of nothing. I went back to my restore point. I guess i can try selecting groups of 3-4 drivers at a time and see if i can narrow it down that way. Does the verifier create a log file or something? do i need to upload any details or anything?

Yeah, selecting a few drivers at a time would be good. Make sure you follow those instructions precisely as the same problem could have occurred if you had selected "Low Resource Simulation". The instructions also show you how to disable verifier in safe mode rather than doing a system restore. Once a BSOD is generated, update the minidumps as normal.. these will contain the results of any problem that verifier has detected.

ok well if i had bothered to read through the driver list i would have noticed that daemon tools left behind sptd.sys when it uninstalled. tested with verifier and it is whats crashing windows. Now tips on how to remove? can i just delete it from win32/drivers? probably should run ccleaner afterwards to remove any registry entries?

Hi Dopey,

You can use autoruns to disable it. After you download and open up the package, double click on autoruns.exe. Click on the Drivers tab, scroll down to sptd, and take the tick out of the box to the left. Finally restart the PC - job done
