Hello, I am new to video streaming. I am wanting to transfer my large Sd dvd collection to my hard drive and then stream it to my dlna blu ray players. My question is should I just use the vob's off the dvd disc itself or take the time to convert them all into mp4 or some other format? Using the vobs will keep the original quality but will also put each dvd around 5gb. I am thinking I could go lower in file size if I convert, but that would take alot more time converting all those dvd's. What would you guys recommend? I purchased a 2 bay Nas, and could only afford one WD 2tb red drive so far.
There are countless options. I use SlySoft's suite of applications. To the best of my knowledge, forum rules may preclude me from discussing this in any significant detail. Suffice it to say - I am 100% satisfied with SlySoft.
The Media Solution i personally use is PLEX Search for plexapp in google and you will find all the information you need. My setup at home is a HP Proliant Microserver available for as little as £102 after cashback. running windows Homeserver. I have added some extra hard drives and ram to the HP, and installed Plex Media server. I then stream Video to my TV Via the built in Plex app. To my Ipad Via the Plex app and to my Laptop and Phone via the Plex Media centre app. (My Family also Stream content to their houses over the internet) I have to say it is Fantastic and takes almost all video formats. (even streams over 3g and changes bitrate to suit) Have a look "i think you will love it" Danny
Thanks. I also have (2) slysoft programs but to the best of my knowledge clonedvd only rips to iso or vobs not mp4 or mkv. Does slysoft have software that converts to mp4 or mkv. The vobs play fine over my hard wired internet connection so I am assuming it is a problem with the mp4 an mkv file not the internet connection. Should I try a different video converter other than Freemake to see if this solves my problems. Any ideas on another free video converter that might convert the files to mp4 or mkv without the jittery playback.
Hello, The video is also shaky when I play it on the computer so i am guessing I will try a different video converter and see if that works any better.
I downloaded Aura. I a having trouble with it. When I select the dvd it shows all the different vob files and then converts each one of them to separate mp4 I need all of them together? I could use a separate Vob merge program but that seems like a lot of extra trouble. Surely there must be something simplier???? Also there seem to be no standard presets for what I want to do? Which should I choose to stream video to tv's?? Please help.
Have a look at this, I've used it in the past to Backup a lot of my OLD movie titles. http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper/ D
Thanks will give it a try. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how much they usually compress there video to? I was thinking if I have a 5gb Vob movie and I convert it to a 2.5gb mp4 movie if the quality would still be good enough to watch on a 47" lcd hdtv. Can you please share your experiences and wisdom with me??
Good enough? It's subjective. I take some down to 700-800 MB. Some to 1.5 TB, some to 2.x GB. The more I like the movie, the wider the range of scene settings - the less compression. For most, I shoot for the 1.5 GB range. I only have 12 TB available. I use little compression for movies I do not plan to keep. But, my eyes are old.
I have never used that app. Common to many - an option for 'separate chapters'. Look for such a setting and set it the way you need it.
Depends on the age and quality of the original for me... If its an old film i'll take it down to 1.5gb ish.... If its on a dual layer and originally 7-9gb then it goes to 2.3 GB most of my Blu Ray Rips are approx 5-12GB depending on film. But i'm only watching on a 37" and a 42"
