That's the rumor circulating. Amazon may be planning to offer same day delivery, thus eliminating the need for people to go out to stores like Wal-Mart. http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/dail...e-day-delivery-change-way-shop-151801298.html
They just didn't mention what day. I would be interested in the fine print. The logistics and cost would be a nightmare.
Unless they can do what Dell did with UPS. They have Dell techs at their distribution centers to repair machines. Just go to the major players and throw their weight around a bit
The scale and cost. 24 hours is to a certian extent is do-able, and please forgive me that I only scanned the article to the best of my ability. but are we talking just parts of their inventory or all? No. I can see a watered down service but not a full line roll out.
JR.com has offered same day delivery for some time. The caveat is that the delivery area is limited to x number of miles surrounding their warehouses. Amazon is surely thinking the same.
A good point M'Lady but if I am not mistaken, Amazon is what is called a front merchandiser. You place an order. They send your order to the product wholesaler which in turn send the product to you. This is advantagous for the same day shipping unless the wholesaler only have a warehouse near you.
The best delivery time for dvd's / bluray disks I have had from Amazon UK is six days. Amazon US takes a little longer it took nearly 10 days for my Kindle to get here.I cant see these times improving for their overseas customers...
Yea, I can only really see this delivery timescale being effective in major urban areas, near Amazon distribution centres.
When they had free delivery to Australia, it took longer as they (Amazon UK) chucked the order in to the second class postage bin instead of first class. Needless to say that only happened once, as I unchecked the offer in the shopping cart and paid the postage to get it quicker.
I agree that I would have to be only in the urban or more populated areas. It would be amazing to order things online and get them the same day, or even the next day for that matter, but it also said there would be a 7 or 8 percent increase in cost so would be be worth it? I suppose when you factor in the taxes one would pay at the store it could be but how much longer can online retailers get away with not charging taxes? How do they not charge in the first place?
