World Community Grid - WCG: Help Fight Childhood Cancer posted in the Distributed Computing forums; I have noticed over the last couple of days another cancer project (Help Fight Childhood Cancer) running alongside the usual one we crunch. Is this a regular occurrence......

I have noticed over the last couple of days another cancer project (Help Fight Childhood Cancer) running alongside the usual one we crunch.

Is this a regular occurrence...

It depends on each person's settings in their WCG profile Arctos.

If for example you happen to have a little box checked that allows them to give you other work units if they happen to be short of regular cancer ones then it could happen or if a person has it set so that they are participating in all the projects offered.

I have a mix of Cancer units, Childhood Cancer units, and Dengue units.

Thanks Lonewolf, I cant check my profile at the moment as the stats are being updated. I will have a look to see what's checked or not later.

It's not a problem to crunch other cancer type work units though...

Yes indeed I hear that.

It's really sad how many people I've encountered that have cancer or their child has it and I've had to go to one six year old's funeral not so long ago.

You don't want anyone to suffer this disease but it does hit home so much harder when it's a child.

I think that's a relatively new project too as I didn't see it last time I checked my project settings so I've ticked that box now.

I have unchecked "Please opt me in to new projects as they become available". No more surprises that way...
